Fresh Randy Pete column for your Saturday on the Rocco Becht news.

Wow…the last part of this made me just about gag.

“ Be grateful for what the Cyclones accomplished with Becht behind (or even sometimes under) center. He leaves Iowa State in a good place.”

I am thankful for what he did here. Very much so. For the most part it’s been fun. But how is leaving and helping to gut the program leaving ISU in a good place? This last decision will forever taint his legacy for many ISU fans.

I just really don't get the anger. I'm bummed, I would have loved to see him finish it out. But, he's an ISU alumni who gave a ton for this community and team. Brought us our winningest team ever, and played through a ton of injuries and led us out of the gambling scandal. I wish him well and I'll remember him as a great cyclone.

Yes! EXACTLY. Sounded like a lazy copy & paste writing from a Campbell article. Yes, CAMPBELL left ISU in a better place because he was the coach and CEO responsible for constructing the whole program top to bottom.

Rocco Becht? Deserves praise for what he did here, absolutely. Let's remember the good times, but how in the hell does the starting QB choosing to leave the school entering his senior year leave ISU in a better place? Unless the answer is the backup/replacement is better than him..?

All valid points, but the highlighted is how I'll remember him. Great Cyclone...while he was here. But he'll never enter Cyclone legend status or be mentioned with Seneca Wallace, Sage Rosenfels, Brock Purdy, etc. Guys who were all QB1 and all FINISHED their careers here. I understand why he left, but he isn't leaving us better off like the article claims.

It was a decision he really didn’t want to make. I can’t blame anyone for wanting to leave when their coach bolts

A great Cyclone starts and finishes his career in Ames. No exceptions.

There's a bunch of ISU greats that didn't do these things.

It's facetious...let's start with Breece Hall. He didn't finish his college career at ISU since he left before 4 years right?

(of course he should have gone, it's just stupid to say someone isn't a great Cyclone if they weren't there for a full career).

How about Seneca, Curtis Jones, Dedric Willoughby, and a bunch of others that transferred in.

I’m more upset about what this probably means for a lot of the others who may leave with him.

Let's start with Breece Hall.
Is there a joke that's going over my head? He didn't transfer in nor out. And his last game for the Cyclones was in Ames against TCU (and he went off that game).

He didn't finish his career at ISU which was part of the criteria to be a great cyclone in that post.

Didn't even finish his junior season (bowl game).

Curtis Jones didn't start at ISU. Neither did Dedric Willoughby, Kenny Pratt, Seneca Wallace and a host of others.

Great Cyclones?

He did finish his collegiate career at ISU which is what I think most are concerned with. Obviously if you're good enough, you jump to the NFL before your eligibility runs out.

You're *this* close to getting what I'm saying.

Nothing to say on the others that didn't start at ISU?
Well the original poster you replied to doesn't share the same sentiments I do.

I personally believe you need to finish your collegiate career at ISU and have great accomplishments at ISU in order to be considered a great Cyclone.

Didn't finish he athletic career. Kid got his degree. He also just lost all the coaches he came here to play for.

Rocco did amazing things for our football program and community. He came in and lifted our team up after our starting qb was released for gambling.

I am seeing people throwing shade at him on here and on Twitter saying he's not a cyclone. Here's the thing, he is a 22 year old trying to do what is best for him and his future. Does it suck he's leaving? Yes, but no sense in being bitter towards a kid who did great things here and also is trying to put himself in a position to pursue his dreams. I get people are invested in college athletics, but it's a game while these kids are trying to do what's best for their future. A vast majority of us would do the same if in the position he is in.
