Separate from the porta-potty/bathroom discussion, but related to the bolded comment. I think a lot of people don't realize that the current footprint of the construction is the footprint of Cytown. I still sometimes see people talk about losing additional parking, even though all of the parking currently available will still be there post-Cytown (as far as I understand).
No parking was lost at all, the spaces are a little tighter but the numbers are at (I think slightly above) what they were pre construction.
And a small bit should be added next year. B5 finished paving during the season and was blocked off for fans, only a few media/workers were able to use it. In the past A5 was undersold to accommodate them.
Plus, moving the RVs out basically doubled/quadrupled the amount of parking on the east lots given that most RV setups would usually take up 2-4 spots.
This all being said, I have a feeling if these buildings are successful they'll want to look at a phase 2 down the line to generate further revenue and that will almost certainly cost parking spots (at least in their present locations). Given ISU's well-known funding shortfalls, if it comes down to preserving some parking spots for ~20 days a year and generating revenue for 365, its pretty easy to guess which one will win.
Do you think there will be more or less space to place them after Cy-Town is built? There were some placed literally where Cy-Town is going. I am skeptical we will see portos all throughout Cy-Town once it's completed...
Which is why I ask about public restrooms construction. If what some posters insinuate is true that there won't be much, if it all, they're going to have to find other space for portos, and hopefully more than they've had.
And there will be less places for them after Cy-Town than before, because, well buildings tend to take up more space for placement of portos compared to curbs/grass/parking lots.
Is the thought process really that Cy-Town will have the same or even more space for them after ground is taken up by Cy-Town buildings? Generally curious where people will use facilities if none are being added within Cy-Town.
Idk...just seems weird to build a place like Cy-Town without adding any public restrooms. It was compared to KC P&L district and Title Town in GB...both of which added public restrooms when they were built. Even if it might not be enough for high traffic events, they still built some.
I don't know why we're so concerned about porta potties. They'll add some temporarily like they always do for football season, and add some more if there are major events with 50,000+ people. But for the rest of the year and basketball season it's just like any other place, restaurants and bars will have restrooms that people can use. What do you do when you're out on the town and need to piss? Go into a place and ask to use the restroom.
I keep a piss jar in my truck during tailgating season in case the lines are too long. Works like a charm!

I've also had 0 issues with lines the past few years. The only time I see people waiting it's because they're not paying attention, a bunch of times the doors look occupied when they aren't and you can tell just by looking from the side and the lever is in lock but the door is open.
For comparison Jack Trice is 10x better than Arrowhead in terms of people/pisser ratio.
There's also plenty scattered throughout the lots that aren't going away, so confused by the last sentence in the 3rd portion.
I posted this link a page ago, but perhaps you didn't see. You can look for yourself at the most recent plans for Cytown buildings and see the public restrooms. To me, it looks like buildings C, D, E, F, and the amphitheater will all have public bathrooms facing outward, such that you don't have to go through tenant space.
For what it's worth, the image below was in some of the Cytown material a while back. (Pollard's video, I think?) Gives a possibility for future development. The space on the left is currently just grass, I believe. On the right, I forget how much space there currently is between the lot and the road.
My concern was laid out before. The lot I tailgate in has 8 porta potties for roughly 300+ parking spots (conservative estimate 800-1,000 people in that lot at any given time on gameday.) For largely attended games (KSU, KU, Iowa, UNI, etc.) the lines can get very long. I've had 30 min waits with UNI/Iowa before.
Luckily, it was pointed out that Cy-Town will build public restrooms (some posters speculated it would add very little, if any at all.)
Thank you, I didn't see this post. It's a very large thread. That basically confirms against what some other said about little to no public restrooms being built. I have a feeling some business tenants of Cy-Town might not be too keen on tailgaters coming in to use their restrooms all gameday.
Hence, why I felt Cy-Town adding public restrooms or an significant increase in porto-potties would be needed. My wife hates porto-potties too, so if she's able to use a regular edifice public restroom in the future she would be very grateful I'm sure. Appreciate the info.
I like the thought, but you forgot about this other place you will donate to called the IRS.

I guess I'm not sure I would classify what looks to be 24 men's urinals/stalls at the amphitheater, plus whatever is in the other buildings' public restrooms (I assume the tenants will have their own restrooms on top of that) to be "little to no public restrooms." But to each their own, I suppose.
Curious if the plan is to open them to the public all the time or only when events are going on at the Cylo venue.
You can also get accidentally poked in the eye with a knitting needle there.
