No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

NIL is going to ruin college sports. If players are going to bail on ISU as soon as they don’t like how the season is going…or they feel playing for ISU will risk their ability to play for another team next year and garner more money from that future place, my interest in all of this goes away.
Unrestricted NIL is ruining college sports. There needs to be some better governance put in place. The schools make millions off of these kids, they deserve a cut of it. There needs to be a salary cap and contracts in place rather than the free for all that's currently happening.
I see UCF, Baylor and Kansas all declined bowls when they were approached as a 5-7 team needed to fill slots. SO will those schools be fined $500,000 also?
They won't be because they were not the original choice to appear in those bowls.
If that isn't in the NIL contract it should be in the next one. Same with scholarships. You vote against playing in a bowl game you lose your NIL and/or scholarship. Rogers should kick every player who voted against the bowl game off the team and ban them all from the workout facility immediately.
Want to start being paid as employees, start treating them as such.
Non-competes.
No poaching employees/players.
Multi-year contracts, or at the very least thru end of bowl season.
Clawbacks on bonuses if leave for a competitor.
I agree. We need to get lawyers involved. At minimum if they vote against a bowl game they lose NIL and scholarship. Wrestlers to the national tournament with blow out knees. These losers won't play in a bowl game because they are pouting.
They should have accepted the bowl bids. They need the practice.
I agree. And I hope that Rogers really makes it clear to the players that remain that they are representing Iowa State University…and that is both a privilege and a responsibility. And that they also should be thankful to the fans for their support and funding.
I have no inside knowledge, but I would speculate the decision had to be made in real time when everything was up in the air as to who would be staying, who would be going, and who would opt out of the bowl game. As well as who would be coaching the game. There was a very good chance we would be unable to focus on the game or put a credible team on the field. Red Cy said it best.
And that raises another point - would fans support a half-assed transitional team in a bowl game?
Maybe there's a way to defer some of the players NIL $$$ until the completion of the season unless they receive a waiver from the coach or university for justifiable reasons? Don't practice and play then you don't get paid. Just like anyone else with a job.
What a load of ****. If you go to Iowa States current roster they have 109 players. I think someone posted earlier you need a minimum of 45 to play. So we have 64 players right now that are hurt and can't play?
We're being gaslit.The real reason is because their coach left and now are emotionally distressed(which is understandable), but they want to be paid like adults and then turn into toddlers when adversity hits.
They are pouting. Go into the portal and pout even more when no school offers. Good riddance to all of them. Rogers needs to clean up this mess.
If we were to properly redefine this whole stupid system as “pay to play” instead of NIL…it should be. The lie that this is NIL…and the supposed protections built in associated with that…need to go away. None of us would know who 90% of the student athletes receiving these funds were if we saw them walking down the street.
Bowl games are as much for the fans as the players. I remember a few years ago it was reported 25,000 ISU fans went to Memphis for the bowl game. I wonder if this will impact season tickets and attendance. Rogers needs to clean house.
