Matt Campbell to Penn State??

The most disappointing thing of this is the timing of it, similar to when Hoiberg left. After the coaching search cycle, when candidates are going to be limited and right after signing day, and just before what is now the only transfer window opening up in a couple weeks...
If he was their top candidate and left during the regular cycle of things, would have been understandable, the way this went down damages the program.

I’m very familiar with the Missouri Valley. NDSU has had a string of coaches the past 15 years that are highly thought of and extremely successful. But none more so than the current coach. He’s a great guy, a great coach, and a players coach.

I would think Jamie would have him on the list, but I don’t know that. He’s the kind of guy Iowa State fans like a lot I feel.
The connection with Tim Polasek (NDSU HC) and David Cook (incoming ISU President) shouldn't be overlooked either.

We need to calm down and appreciate everything Coach has done for ISU. Some of the comments here are disgusting. We were nobody, CMC came in and made ISU relevant and for that lets have good things to say about him, not this "hypocrite" talk or labeling him whatever. I will be sad if he leaves, but we just don't have the money to pay the best players out there. So he is limited and might want to look to see what he can do with a lot of money like at Penn State. A lot of us would jump ship if we were in his position, so if there are hypocrites, its most of us commenting here with negative vibe. A lot of us don't even donate to NIL cause yet we want our team to do well. I think we need to stay positive but also find ways we could help our school. I don't know if the peole responsible for raising money for NIL are really doing much because personally I have never received a call or email asking me to danate, granted I don't have a lot of money, but if I can subscribe to watch youtubetv or all those other services, then I can afford a $100 donation. Every little amount helps if used appropriately.

That's going to happen anyway. Take your time, make the right hire.

There are a bunch of candidates with no Iowa State connections that would be great. Just got to find the right one and not put yourself into an artificial box.
100%. Rushed hires tend to be bad hires. And listening to current players typically on meets the short-term

Sure we want a great team in 2026, but hiring the next coach is about building a Big12 front runner for the next 5 years. Maybe the most critical 5 years for a Big12 program.

Damn the timing on this one sucks for fans and especially the recruits that just signed their Letters of Intent.

Penn State just lucked into the best coach on the market. He's going to be a great fit there and will probably win a natty at some point. I will always root for Campbell. He's taken Iowa State to a level we've never been at and has turned down many lucrative offers over the years to stay here and continue building the program. I know there will be a lot of butt hurt around here, but I can't fault the guy for taking a dream job.
If you’re not with us you’re against us.

I root against State Penn and will continue to do so…..probably more.

I can totally see why he did it. But just like Fred, Chizik, Greg, etc. I wont be rooting for him. I hope he falls on his ass there.

I'm in the 'take what you get if it's overall good' camp but if his teams come out looking organized and have consistently strong special teams that'll be annoying haha.
