Matt Campbell to Penn State??

CMC is gone... he is not going to turn down $10M+/year, it is generational wealth. Lets not pretend he cares about not being the first coach PSU called for the opening, doesn't matter... money talks and sadly this is the end of an era. I don't blame him, get your money!
We haven't had a cute fledgling hok troll here in a while.

If he leaves and takes the Penn St. job it will not be for the money, it will be because at PSU he has all the resources needed to win championships, something he most likely will never have at ISU.

They were talking about the Penn State job yesterday on the sat. radio college sports, while Campbell was the leading candidate, many of the players want the guy that replaced Franklin to get the job. He played at Penn State and as coached there for almost a decade. The announcers thought it might be easier for the AD to give in to the players and hire the interim coach and if it does not work out, he can fall back on "that is what the players wanted". That gets him a few years to get out of this cycle where a splasher coach could be hired down the road if it doesn't work out with the intern guy. They also thought he would take the job at a lower price and shorter deal, just for the opportunity.

Seemed when it was all assured he was the next coach at Washington but then pretty abruptly he wasn't. That time he was a way earlier candidate (maybe the lead?) & didn't take it. This time he's the 8th or 9th choice with a heavy portion of the Pedo State fan base saying he's a lite version of who they just fired & a lot of donors & former players (Parsons being 1) stating to choose the interim or else, plus the former coach poached basically the entire class and today's world is all about instant gratitude & this would be an extremely bad starting point for anyone.

Campbell's contribution to ISU has been outright beyond massive. If he has higher aspirations, so be it & go for it. But Pedo State ain't it. I'm hoping to Hell he doesn't take it, but not because he's leaving ISU, but because I'll be cheering against him there. Basically anywhere else I would be 1 of his biggest fans. F PSU.

I would've taken USC and had my chest hair permanently in the sun in my baller Lincoln Riley style home with Lane Kiffin quality yoga classes going on by the pool.

It'd be great if the people who apparently learned the term "generational wealth" like a week ago could be bothered to look up the median household income in Iowa.
Yeah, I've been chuckling when people are saying 'generational wealth' when referring to Penn St. Campbell has already earned generational wealth at ISU and continues to each year.

Does anyone not understand that as a fanbase we need to stop being so cheap? Our donations compared to peers is a fraction. Throw a hundred dollars a year in NIL and you would be surprised how much that would help. If you are concerned about losing Campbell and he stays, better at least chip in something.

I just hope we hear within something soon... I am not going to be getting much work done today otherwise
None of us is going to be productive today regardless.

Except PSU was coming on the heels of a couple of national titles within a decade, albeit had been kinda marginal right up to joining the B1G.

Nebraska had been about 15 years removed from a national title and except for a couple of decent years with Bo, had been bad going into the B1G. One of the bigger misconceptions out there is that Nebraska only fell hard when they came into the B1G.
prop 48 exposed Osborne.

I laugh every time I hear this phrase in coaching search discussions (not just ISU). The first few million earned in your career is "generational wealth". Any striving for more money is just an ego move. Which isn't inherently a bad thing, it's a natural part of progressing in your career for many, and balancing your salary with peers who have accomplished similar levels of success.

But let's not pretend a $2M/yr salary at the lowest end of Big 12 coaches isn't already generational wealth.

How about being paid fair market value and commensurate NIL with the top half of your league? Matt was the 47th highest paid coach this year. The cost of competing at this level requires this fanbase to step up financially. And the reality is that 80% of this fanbase doesn’t donate to NIL and doesn’t contribute to the Cyclones Club. It is maddening and it will inevitably cost us…..and when it happens the 20-35 year old crowd is going to understand why the 45+ crowd has been banging that drum the last 5 years.

To say nothing of the fact that future generations who inherit this wealth often piss it away.
