Des Moines, Ia.
Saw anX/tweet during the game that freshman safety Josh Patterson is no longer with the team…iirc.

Odd timing but not surprising, considering how deep the room will be next year.

I think I remember that last year there was a player who sat out the final REGULAR SEASON game or two not because he was entering the portal, but because he thought he was NFL bound. Did he play for Iowa?

I dont recall that, and Im pretty sure that one would stick out if it happened at Iowa. Maybe I just want paying attention.....

I think we had a couple of RBs sit out the K-State game at the end of ‘23 because they were transferring, but I think injuries may have been a factor.

Norton maybe? Just going off the top of my head.

Guess I'm thinking of Jermari Harris, a cornerback at Iowa who opted out of the final regular season game and bowl game because of an "unspecified injury". Said he wanted to get ready for the NFL draft.

Time for me to put the blinders on and wait till the team takes the field next yr and cheer for whomever is on it.

THAT is the correct attitude.

No use freaking out over crap you can't control. Just hope for the best and realize that each young man has to do what's best for himself. That's how we'd feel if it were our own son making the decision.

And realize for the most part, we've been able to keep most of our key players.

Is it?

I pay attention. I just see no reason to freak out over someone else’s choices. Let alone an 18-22 year old kid.

Same way I look at 16-18 year old high school kids’ recruiting decisions.

This year's portal season is Jan 2-16 with no second portal season after spring ball. Big improvement over last season's mess.

However, I think it kind of sucks for the players because they have a much better idea of their likelihood for playing time for the upcoming season AFTER spring practice.

Patterson showed promise. Hate to see him leave, but there are lots of reasons he may leave. Since he played as a freshman, but wasn’t a full time starter I doubt it is due to playing time or money.
