When I bought our 77” flush mount OLED in a similar price range to his 8k set, the extended warranties were well over a thousand so it made more sense to self insure. Either repair after warranty if it is maybe $1,000 or less to fix or just get a new TV in the future as tech keeps advancing and prices keep coming down. And places like Costco that offer included extended warranties seemed to stop at more mid level TVs (probably because of the extended warranties).Could be, it's why I said he is at a price point where it might be worth looking to fix it rather than replace it, unless its got a lot of hours on it. Also a good reason to purchase an extended warranty on high dollar tvs.
yeah TVs not lasting more then a few years now is annoying as hell. we have a decent mid grade LG that will go technicolor on us, and one of our our mid grade Samsungs already has vertical lines in less then 5 years. but the 12 year old VIZO and Samsung we have are still going strong.
Spent $560 to get it fixed and in the matter of one month it has now done the same thing again…
I’ve been buying Sony for awhile and have been happy with them. Finally threw out my oldest on after 15 years. It started in the living room and ended up being a garage tv.Update: I went ahead and had the tv repaired. By luck a local tv repairman had just fixed the exact same problem on the exact same tv a week before. Spent $560 to get it fixed and in the matter of one month it has now done the same thing again… so I am done… should have bought a new one before.
Silver lining is timing of this whole situation-now that Black Friday is upon us this week I am in the market for a new tv. What are people recommending? Looking to spend around $1,000-1,500 at very most. Best technology/interface for YouTube TV and other often used apps. Stay around a 75” and at least 4k. Am impartial to Samsung as that’s the only brand I have ever used for flatscreen tv’s, but would also entertain other brands. Let me know what you all are finding!

You made a great choice.
Bought this last Sunday in Ames.
You say you are partial to Samsung.... but Hate to say it they are very well known for this issue. I had one that would probably be about 10 years old right now... if it had lasted that long. Same power board/supply issue. It was well known at that time, yet they would not recall it, and they obviously are still using the same junk components that still have the problem.A bad power board inside the tv.
Also to boot there are no certified repair technicians probably in the entire state of Iowa. At least here in western half of Iowa there isn’t…You say you are partial to Samsung.... but Hate to say it they are very well known for this issue. I like the quality of their tvs outside this issue, great picture, good features, good operating system, but the Power issue is a huge problem for them, and if it is still an issue there is no way I would touch a Samsung, until they fix the issue. I would definitely research that issue and see if it is still a problem on their current models before I bought another one.
That being said I dont know what route I would go right now if I had to replace my main TV. I currently have a Sony Bravia, 85" that is about 5 years old, and overall it has been good, but not exactly a fan of the operating system, but newer models might have a better system.
What’s with the AI part of these tv’s now? Has been a few years since I’ve gone down this road.

Had the same issue with new Samsung OLED we bought this year. Luckily since it was in a year, we bought through NFM in Omaha and they connected us to a local TV repair place to switch out the board free of charge. Sounds like this has been an issue with their newer models.A bad power board inside the tv.
