ISU Bowl Projection

In the latest "Williams & Blum," Chris expressed being OK w/ Liberty, until Blum noted Memphis is the likely opponent, and CW said, in essence, screw that.

As everyone should.
Yeah, Memphis is the only place I can't see myself even considering attending. Went twice, that was enough. City has a cool history but it and the stadium are dumps. Add Memphis as the opponent and it's an even harder pass.

If it has to be Memphis hopefully it is an SEC team.

Yeah it is in their backyard but most bowl locations are.

But I can hear everybody going "meh" about an mid-tier ACC or G5 team but leaning in on an SEC one.

Hence my want of Mizzou in Phoenix.

SEC team. Old rival. Way away from their backyards. Would be well-attended from both sides.

You have me curious for De-Tails.
We were harangued and cussed out the entire way out. We went out to our bus in the parking lot but it was the last bus and we had to wait for the stragglers. Several drunk fans jumped up on the bus and started telling us we FAFO'd, among other lovely sentiments. I realize that wasn't representative of the entire fan base, but it was enough for me.

I can’t believe Jamie would sign up for that. He knows it would be bad, he’s not dumb. It would be such a tough sell and I’m sure he’d pull whatever levers he needed to to not play them in that game.
I'm so glad Memphis is getting more hate.....imo it's supremely overrated. Beale Street is the only redeeming quality and it's not enough for me to want to go back.

Memphis is a dump. The stadium is a dump and in a bad area. The weather whenever we're there is always bad.

I want the Rate Bowl in Phoenix. Would be nice for something new and we haven't been out west for a bowl since the Insight Bowl against Minnesota.

Rate bowl is fine but the date makes it no attendable for my family. Christmas in Iowa, last big family one as my parents are both about 85 makes it impossible to miss. So no way we nake it. Give me one in Dallas on Jan 2nd and I will go down there.

At this point, I just want ISU to finish strong with wins over K.U. and @ Okla. State. THEN, wherever, the Cyclones (8-4) go will be fine. Even if it is Memphis @ Liberty Bowl, the Cyclones will have the opportunity to finish with 9 wins for only the 4th time in the Modern Era (2000, 2020 and 2024) and back to back for the first time ever. It's knocking down another door in Cyclone Football History.

Brett McMurphy who I think has been the best at Bowl Projections in the past with his latest projection:

Texas Bowl (Dec. 27)
Houston
Kentucky vs. Iowa State

This is who he has in the Rate & Liberty Bowl:

Rate Bowl (Dec. 26)
Phoenix
TCU vs. Northwestern

Liberty Bowl (Jan. 2)
Memphis, Tenn.
Cincinnati vs. Memphis
Texas Tech - Playoff
Utah - Alamo
BYU - Orlando
Houston - Texas
Cincy - Liberty
ISU - Phoenix

I have a hard time seeing the Texas Bowl not picking Houston. Honestly it's criminal that they might go 10-2 and be in that bowl. Realistically, it will come down to if we can get 2 teams in playoff as that moves everyone up.

bowl tie-ins are the dumbest thing ever. nothing like teams going to the same bowl nearly every year.

The Outback Bowl might as well just be called the Hawkeye Outback Bowl at this point.

I've always hated the bowl tie ins but with the new playoff format and todays landscape they need to go away. Get the best matchups you can, it's the only way to salvage any of the bowl relevancy.

People will throw a fit if we have to go to Memphis again regardless. I don't even know if an SEC doormat would do a lot but it would help with b*tching some. I'm fine if it's an SEC team but I don't see that happening. They game their bowl system way better and I'm not sure there bottom feeders will want to play us.

If we could draw a SEC opponent and better weather I do think that would back off some of the hate for the Liberty bowl. We've really struck out in the weather department down there.

Zero chance of me going to a bowl game this year since I am going on vacation over the holidays already, but if ISU played Memphis in the Liberty again no one would go. I went last time and attendance at the last game sucked for both teams. I can't imagine what it would look like this year. I don't see how anyone involved in the decision making process would want that.
