I know I said I'd wait a day or two, but I lied. :) Next up is another all-timer with an incredible list of films: Alfred Hitchcock. Please pick only feature films.

His full-length features are as follows, but note he had a LOT between 1925 and 1940ish...but not many would have seen them. If you have, and one of them is in your top 5, by all means add them. I started with what is considered when he became popular. I have a feeling a lot of the same will be the top five, but the order of the five will be interesting. I also know his movies are old, so not be very many responses to this one. Alas.

The Man Who Knew Too Much
The 39 Steps
The Lady Vanishes
Jamaica Inn
Rebecca
Mr. And Mrs. Smith
Suspicion
Shadow of a Doubt
Lifeboat
Notorious
Rope
Strangers on a Train
Dial M for Murder
Rear Window
The Trouble With Harry
The Man Who Knew Too Much
To Catch A Thief
The Wrong Man
Vertigo
North By Northwest
Psycho
The Birds
Marnie
Torn Curtain
Topaz
Frenzy
Family Plot

I couldn’t do Spielberg because too hard to pick, but this one is easy. Here’s my top 4 (because I’ve only seen 4 of them)

Dial M For Murder (the 3D version)
North By Northwest
The Birds
Vertigo

Ashamed to say, I think I have only seen 5 so my list would have to be:

Rear Window
Psycho
Vertigo
Strangers on a Train
The Birds

I'll be watching responses so I know which ones I should be prioritizing. Without further input I would probably look for North by Northwest first.

Also which of the two versions of The Man Who Knew Too Much should I watch first? ;)

Here is the thing...there are 2 Hitchcock films that don't get the credit they deserve. 1) Rope and 2) Suspicion. Rope was so awesome in that it was made to look like it was one continuous take (which bonkers in and of itself). Suspicion is the best movie that never was. Hitchcock wanting Johnnie (Cary Grant) to poison Lina (Joan Fontaine). Instead, the studio wanted a romance and made Hitchcock alter the ending. What could have been! Rear Window remains my all-time favorite Hitchcock film.

This is one for my wife, she was a film studies major and is a big historical movie buff. I've seen a handful of Hitchcock's movies, liked most of them. My favorite I'd probably say is Rope. Just some cool filming techniques happening there if I remember correctly.

I went back and forth having Rope as #5. It's #6 for me. Rope is also full of homosexual context which couldn't be outright talked about due to the Hays Code during that time period.

I think depending on my mood I could swap Psycho and Rear Window for 1 and 2.

I love that he kills the main star in Psycho in like the first third of the film. Must have shocked the audience at the time.

As I said, Rear Window is a top ten film ever for me, but I also firmly believe that Grace Kelly in that movie is a stunner. One of the most beautiful someone as looked in a movie ever.

I don't know if I've seen enough Hitchcock movies to have a legit top five but here goes:

Movies I loved:
Psycho
Rear Window

Liked but don't love:
Vertigo
The Birds
North by Northwest

Got some movie watching to do this winter. I struggle to find good series on Netflix, Amazon, etc at times and tend to overlook the idea of binging movies by a director.

Just like Spielberg, a lot of Hitchcock movies I need to check-out:

My favorites would be:
Birds
Rear Window
To Catch a Thief
North by Northwest
Vertigo
