*** Official Grambling State vs #16 IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I’m sure you’re smart enough to understand that doesn’t mean we’re shooting well, right?

I think this team has potential, don’t get me wrong, just might have to get the ball in the basket in other ways.
We would have had 113 if we can make those non defended shots from the foul line...

I like that we’re up by 14 when we didn’t really play that well. Tamin continues to play at a level above the others. Toure a bit out of control tonight, looking more like a freshman, but you can see the potential.

I don’t see what people are saying in that our identity is defense and that we’re gonna look like the earlier TJ teams. That’s about as opposite of what I’m seeing through the early game action. Our post defense is…yeah. I mean, it can only go up? Buchanan disrupted a couple of shots around the hoop for sure. But, Jefferson and Milan are liabilities on defense. Perimeter D will be fine, but our system relies on all 5 guys giving full effort and that’s just not happening so far.

Mississippi State game will show whether it’s just guys playing with less effort against the Gramblings of the world.
I think you are way off base on Jefferson. TJ has talked about how underrated and important he is on defense. I think most fans get hung up on 1on1 defense. Jefferson is not elite ther, but he does know where he is supposed to be, gets his hands on the ball and is elite in the team defense. Buchanan, Mulder and Pleta will improve with that as well. Every big man playing for TJ has struggled with the team defense concepts early on but 5 or 10 games in, they are far better. Those 3 are well ahead of Jackson and Chatfield at the start of last year.

The fact is, TJs defenses have continuously improved during every season. This one is not the worst one to start a season by a long shot.

could this be the first year of the modern era that we don’t see a freshman transfer down? It’s only two games against low majors but really like this class. Mitchell looks like he can be a dude too if he has time to develop

Buchanan had 9 rebounds, 8 points, 4 blocks and 2 assists in 21 minutes. I'm not sure what people expected out of him but that's not a bad game. If you thought he was going to be a primary scorer I don't think you were paying attention. He's averaged 4 points a game for his career. I get that was at Virginia but still, he was brought in for defense and rebounding and he did a good job of that tonight.

If we get 4 years from Toure, he's going to be another all timer at PG. What a string from Monte to Tyrese to Tamin to Toure
PGU

I remember the stat of ISU having an NBA player on their roster every year for a long time but maybe Prohm killed it or maybe not. He had NBA dudes too.

Yeah, Milan didn't have a great night tonight and we could only manage 102 points with 6 guys in double figures.
If 11 points, 5 boards, 3 assists, 2 steals and 33% from three in 21 minutes is an off night for Milan is an off night, we are in great shape. Extend.that out to his average minutes and you've got 15 pts, 7 boards, 4 assists and 3 steals. Based on minutes played, that's a hell of a stat stuffing night for him.

Does he have good quickness? I couldn't watch the game. I'll be happy if he can provide weak side defensive help, run the floor well and score some occasional baskets.

i love his energy when he is on the court.
A backcourt lineup of Lipsey, Toure and Batemon is going to terrify any offense in the country. And Nelson and Heise are no slouches at all.

We all know what Jefferson and Milan are.

Buchanon, Pleta and Mulder are a nice threale headed monster at the five. We may legitimately see a 10 man rotation this yeah. It might be 8 man but I think it'll be more matchup based. I think there will be some nights when Mulder, Pleta, Batemon and Nelson only get a handful of minutes. Not because the don't deserve to play, but matchups and the hot hand may dictate that.

Lipsey has been amazing, but we honestly don't look that awful when he is not on the court.
