Both Presidential candidates come from an academic background. Cook is from Ames & an ISU alum and is someone I heard people identify over the summer as a candidate they would like to see. Both appear that they would be good for athletics, it eased my mind on that topic when I saw Houlton listed being a wrestling coach in his University bio.

Both appear to be very qualified for the job.
My vote would probably be Cook. Presidential experience at a state school similar to ISU. And of course the Ames native and ISU alum angle.
That being said, wouldn’t be upset if they went with Houlton.

They both look so young (which is neither here nor there)...maybe I am just getting old!
Both midwest guys so that's cool. Houlton might be better for the CALS side of things and he seems to have a deeper academia resume, I would be slightly afraid he might be looking for more "prestigious" jobs and move on after a few years though, but who knows.
Cook is from Ames and went to ISU and probably better for the athletics side of things although I do think the president of the university should prioritize academics first and foremost which I'm sure they both would. Much more likely to stay in Ames for a long time if he's good, and has some experience being a president.

It's hard to tell sometimes if the "Ames guy" is the better fit because he will be here longer and pour his heart into it, or if that's just a rationale to justify hiring a guy with less ambition or less potential and who might not be that great. Guess that's up to the interviewers to determine...

Agreed! When it was only two i was worried even if one was good, if the other wasn't could set up that feeling of "well, they had no other choice"

Two solid candidates imo, but I'd lean with Cook based off the connection, plus it seems on social media that he is pretty enthusiastic about NDSU athletics and seems pretty engaging. I guess we will see.
Relieved that its down to these two qualified individuals, and not some one else who I think we all feared might get the nod.
