We are little brother

I will say I will always fondly remember those 2 weeks or so where we were the premier program in the State of Iowa. That faded fast.

Rather be 6-2 with a loss to Iowa. Would mean we have no more that 1 conference loss and still in the running for the title game. To me, all the of the Hawkeye fans that feel they need to wear Iowa gear to ISU games (home and away) give off little brother energy (don't forget about us!!).
This. And the fact that any post that even mentions Iowa State on X has a minimum of 5 immediate comments from Hawk trolls. That is what little brothers do.

so because our stadium is designed to not trap as much sound and our seats are a little farther away, we are far inferior to our rival? Get the f*** out of here with that nonsense. Complaining about the crowd when it was a sellout doesn't make sense. Also, taking a picture of the stands during halftime and using it to judge attendance is stupid.

Iowa fans have major insecurity issues. That is why their presence at ISU games or comments online pop up to defend their so called status. That they have created a great football atmosphere is awesome for them. That’s what happens when you’ve had decades of success. I’m not going to bemoan them that. ISU is still trying to find an identity in my opinion. A constant roller coaster of good, average and bad seasons over the years does that. I’ve been a season ticket holder for 30 years and I find the ISU crowd to be loud when it needs to be without the perpetual need to stand all the time. I do find the 110 decibel screaming through the sound system to be about as obnoxious as fleas in a jock strap.

The same could be said about any old stadium. Wrigley Field is small and cramped too. Lacks most modern amenities. Id love to have an actual on-campus stadium.
Charm is in the eye of the beholder, when it's your team, you love the charm, but when you are the visitor you see the faults of the stadium and everything that goes with it. Because of lack of space surrounding both stadiums, there is really nothing either group can do to make the experience better for the average fan attending the game.
Is Wrigley Field or Kinick that much better than a modern stadium or is just the fact its old, has history and its the place your favorite team plays? I have been to Fenway, and while its neat to see the Green Monster and think about all the great players that played there, it was also cramped, a pain finding parking, moving around and finding concessions and restrooms were not enjoyable at all compared to a fairly modern stadium like Busch Stadium or the K in Kansas City.

Maybe I’m just old but I don’t like those old cramped stadiums at all.

Worst game day experience I’ve ever had was at Michigan. The Big House is the worst stadium I’ve ever been in and it’s not close.

I have also heard the big house seating is terrible. They did that on purpose to get more fans in the stands. They could not stand for other schools getting more fans to their games, so they reconfigured it. Pretty sure Oregon could do the same with their stadium to usurp Michigan. That would drive the Wolverine fans batty.

Hawk fans over here are crowing about this. Looking at that list, there is one difference.
BIG championships in the time frame noted:
Ohio State: 4
Iowa: 0
Oregon: 1
Michigan: 3
Penn State: 1

Which reinforces the narrative: Iowa is a good team, they beat the teams they are supposed to and lose to any (and almost all) teams that are better than them. 8-4 by definition with their schedule (which isn't bad, but it is not elite).

Playing in the B10 least division for a decade was the gift that still keeps on giving. It's really amazing how average those teams were over that span of time and how many wins both EIU and Wisconsin chalked up with rarely beating the better teams from the east. The like to bag on the B12 North, but at least when the divisions were formed the better teams were in the North, that was never the case in the B10 division set up.

What that shows me is the difference between the big10 west and east. Not to mention them not playing Ohio State or Michigan very often.

They are the best mediorce team in a bad conference. Never playing down to the dregs and never playing up to the elites.

As for why everyone stands at Kinnick... It's out of neccessity! Went to an ISU/Iowa game in IC once, and my biggest complaint was how little leg room there was. I had to sit with my knees off to the side. Never had that problem at the Jack!

I reckon the little brother is always usually louder. So checks out for them to actually be little bro.

Also, when was the last time Kinnick has seen a top 25 win or a good win at that? Who cares man.

We've certainly had many chances to overtake Iowa as the premier program in the state and it seems like every time we get close we manage to squander the momentum. Had a chance after we beat them 5 times in a row in the McCarney era. Had another chance early in the Rhodes era and another chance now. Our fan base has been slowly growing compared to Iowa over the last 20 years. Whenever Ferentz steps down we have to bury them once and for all.

Kinnick was built for elementary school kids to attend, thus the lack of legroom.
