Anyone been through this and have tips/help?

Been dealing with lower back pain for 2 weeks then woke up Thurs to pain through the back and down the leg.

Went to doctor. They have me on a few medications.

This really sucks as standing or sitting has me in excruciating pain.

I discovered relief by lying on the carpet and putting a golf ball under my buttock on whichever side hurt the most. Then roll around on the ball to get it to massage wherever it hurts. Do that for a couple minutes and when I stood up, I would feel better right away.

Repeat it about twice a day or even three. I would get pretty much total relief after about 3 days.

I had it awful for 18+ months. Never any relief. Tried different yoga, Pilates, stretching, chiropractors, inversion tables, massages, foam rolling, TENS unit, etc.

I started doing hamstring curls & glutes bridges twice a week and it was resolved in <2 weeks.

Butterfly pose and ham string stretches. Yoga in general has helped my pain.

I did find out recently I have scoliosis due to my physical line of work taking a toll on my body over the years. Been going to Asuta in Ankeny and it's been a great relief. I would recommend you checking into them. If you're interested give me a PM I think they give discounts for recommendations.

They give discounts because they are most likely chiropractors that’s don’t know **** about medicine or treatment. They just want you coming back over and over again.

Love ya but recommending a chiro is the absolute worst thing you can do for any real medical condition.

Did you get imaging or did they just make a diagnosis based on your H/PE?

What meds did they put you on and what physical activity did they recommend for therapy?

I mean, I feel better than I ever did in my 30s right now. Results matter.

I had sciatic pain for about 5 years, so I thought I would go to a chiro, this clown told me I could see him once a week for a long time and he would fix it. I was like no bruh, meet a back specialist in DM and had surgery a month or so later. Now it not perfect but its better than not being able to function. Chiros can pound sand.

walking is the only self-medication that's helped me. trying to fix yourself with golf balls or whatever is likely to do more harm than good, imo and experience.

I agree with this.

Except don't ask for physical therapy. Just do it. You don't need a general practitioner's permission to heal yourself.

I tend to try to see if I can work it out myself but the PT I've been going to for several years is great at pinpointing where things are weak or tight and how to counter it specifically instead of taking a guessing game from a YT video.

*Also the PT keeps things very simple and just gives like 1 or two things to do instead of 12 like others I've known. It makes it easier to be sustainable with continuing instead of feeling like it's a laundry list of exercises.

I bought an inversion table for my middle back tension but when I hang upside down it stretches my midsection instead of my back. The positive thing about that though is that whenever I have hip/sciatica issues flare up I get on the table and hang for a couple mins and its gone.

Do NOT go to a chiro for sciatica pain..they adjust skeletal issues that can actually make it worse for nerve issues. Stretching exercises, cold therapy and physical therapy are the way to go…learn the stretches from PT and do them religiously.. sorry for such a biased opinion but I have been fighting it myself for almost 30 years. I have never felt so helpless and misdiagnosed in my life..best of luck- it truly sucks

It can help along with PT but always good to get a confirmed diagnosis first through imaging before going that route. Some people swear by it and from basic body mechanics it makes sense but without the PT and lifestyle changes you are just treating the symptom.

With back pain though I get it, most people can’t or won’t make the life changes and the pain can be practically debilitating for many people
