WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Wonder why she would pass on South Carolina or USC must have been promised a starting position now.

A Top Ten recruit, short of maybe the center position, is likely to start almost anywhere other than maybe one of the old UConn teams with 12 McDonald All-Americans on the roster. I doubt starting was "promised", more likely a coach would say "I envision you starting if all goes well". And, as a wing, I expect she will end up starting. Might be one of those seemingly rare instances where a fan filled arena really mattered since she mentioned that.

CC Effect

For sure, in part. The Final Fours and Clark got recruit eyes on Iowa (the opportunity part) but they still needed to land the gals and Jensen has done that by not losing any of the 2024 recruits when Bluder retired, and now landing a really good classes for 2025 and off an running for 2026. And having west coast teams in the Big 10 makes it a Big Ten recruiting region so a Cali gal coming to the Midwest might not be as big a reach as a few years back.

We completed our move to southern MN near grandchildren so I no longer have to see and hear this on a daily basis, but Jan Jensen is constructing a juggernaut in Iowa City. This is what she'll potentially be putting on the court in the next several years:

PG - Addison Deal - 5 Star (2025)
SG - Mallegni & Stremlow - 4 Star (2024)
SF - Addison Bjorn - 5 Star (2026)* - Not Yet Committed
PF - McKenna Woliczko - 5 Star (2026)
Post - Ava Heiden - 4 Star (2024) & Layla Hays - 4 Star (2025)

The scarier part is the lack of attrition. How they're keeping all of these young women happy is impressive. They missed on Guyton, but that wasn't for lack of PT - her dad is whack.

I've said it a million times - I hate the hawks as much or more than anybody. But you have to tip the cap to them - they landed the white whale and didn't rest on their laurels. Hopefully ISU can get them this year because they're looking like a superpower for 2026 and beyond.

Should quiet the critique by some that Iowa is aiming "too high" in chasing the number of top national recruits that they have. Big get for you guys. And you're still in the running for Bjorn and Lewis, right?

Wish the Iowa board was still open to read, would like to peek into the reaction.
This is where you find out how good the coaching staff is. I’ve always been a Jensen fan…far more than Bluder.

Double rival for me as I am a fan of both Cyclone and Gopher WBB so I pay quite a bit of attention to them. And, pretty much agree with everything you noted. The lack of attrition is notable in this day and age so not a ton of portal turnover which could help recruiting HS gls? I am a bit envious since my home area Gophers were never able to parlay their Final Four into much after that, although they are incrementally improving with their new coach. Been frustrating in MN because over the years there was a TON of talent that went outstate.

Gophers seem to be recruiting well. Hopefully Braun can stay healthy because she's really good. I think the Gophers are definitely on the upswing.

"Best of the Rest" last year as WBIT champs which wasn't a bad consultation with the injuries they had. Hoping for better in the Big Ten for them this year.

In my opinion EJ, aka @EJayArrow, is a clickbaiting troll trying to establish social media street cred by spamming WBB "content". His post last week on Big 10 starters for the Hawks was pure stupidity just designed to invoke reactions. It was so far off base I almost replied but I don't feed trolls so caught myself and deleted it before I sent it. He keeps showing up in my feed and I am probably going to block him because he's a moron.
