Creighton exhibition discussion (see post 178 for Jake's link)

To be fair. TJs teams seem to peak early and fade a little in th 2nd half of the season. I’d be fine with peaking later in the year. It’s gonna take a little time I’d expect to get everyone on the same page. Plus I’m guessing Creighton per typical, is pretty good

Said this when Iowa lost to St Louis in a scrimmage by 20+ points:

These “games” don’t matter. It’s just a chance for players to go up against someone other than themselves. Coaches will mix and match lineups to experiment. And with these two teams facing in a REAL game soon, it wouldn’t be smart to show your cards yet

Biggest takeaway from these games would be how any new players look athletically. But even then we will get a very good look at them in a couple weeks when these games matter
The issue here is what kind of weird, walk-ons lineup did we see tonight? As far as I can tell, it’s our regular rotation (or what we thought would be our regular rotation)

Creighton has been the one putting walk-ons out there.

Minus arguably our best player yes it's what you would expect our regular rotation to be.

It's frustrating that our "defense first" team... that preaches a fighting attitude.. gave up 46 pts in the first half.

And then... it doesn't help when we have one shooter on the team... Milan... and he can't hit anything. Not a good recipe for success.

Talk about not having the team ready to play. Sheesh! Obviously just an exhibition, but this is frightening and the coaches have to own this one. Can’t be preaching how all that matters is winning, regardless of it being an exhibition, as TJ did this week, and then come out like this.

Who cares? It’s a game that doesn’t matter. Are you going to panic before a regular season game even begins?

Why are you here? Go cheer for your beloved Hawkeyes. They are national championship contender with new coach.

The problem is if they are not those things is this a top 40 team? Obviously still unknown but hurts our chances because banking on those things with Freshmen and role player transfers filling in gaps.
I don’t disagree, but I think it’s asking guys to do things that are pretty far from what they can do well. Can they both improve in those facets, absolutely. But you may be trying to impose an identity on them that just isn’t a great fit. This is a single exhibition game, I’m not concerned at this point. It just seems kind of a big stretch.

Why double team 18’ from the basket w/o being near the mid court and sideline? It leaves for an easy opening to drop to an open player.
