#13 in Kenpom Rankings

2025: Milan hand, Tamin thumb and groin, Keshon whatever, Nojus non-factor
2024: Hason Ward foot, Tamin shoulder, Omaha non-factor
2023: Jaz finger, Grill drama, not sure on the specifics but I remember reading that Shoon had some medical condition limiting him all year

We are due for a nice injury-free, drama-free year with productive freshmen!

edit: forgot about Tamin's groin.

Shoon iirc had a knee/leg issue that hampered him and then he would get tired quickly to add.

Gilbert outside of his leg injury will always be a mystery as imo it was one of the few times that TJ seemed to kind of skirt the issue at the end aside from some comments like post-KSU mess at Hilton about guys taking it in 1 on 3 or 4 instead of playing within the game.

There is absolutely NO WAY there are 24 better coaches than TJ!! Ken needs to make some adjustments
Is this more of a gameday component? Nobody can deny that TJ is a program builder and an elite motivator. But during games he defers to his assistants a lot and can be slow to react to things that aren’t working. But this is largely overcome by his teams effort and attitude which comes straight from TJ.

You don’t win as many game as TJ has (including going from 2-22 to the sweet 16 in year 1) and beat as many ranked teams as he has without being a great gameday coach.

Easy to forget about it, takes a backseat to his gigantic balls.

Top 25 is good. I’m just saying his real strength is program and culture building where he is top 5 IMO.

In Pomeroy's article about his preseason rankings, he briefly mentions the coaching component. He stresses that this captures what is not already captured by the rest of the model.

In some ways, that leaves me with more questions. It's hard to reconcile the model already including team talent, but having TJ's coaching component be lower despite having teams that overperformed their talent levels, or the model already including recent program performance, but still has Sampson at #1 while TJ is lower.

He said he'll probably write more on the coaching component in the future, which will be interesting.

Steve Forbes at #10??? Leon Rice?

TJ is way better than some of these guys. How is Forbes in the top 10?
In addition, Kyle Smith…Ritchie McKay…Ron Hunter….Tommy Amaker?????? Some real head scratchers above TJ. Amaker was fired at Michigan for crying out loud.

And how bout Self clear down at 20????
