Some of the names I've seen thrown around Reddit to replace him are Matt Rhule and Manny Diaz - both have connections to the program so that makes sense. I don't think Rhule is an upgrade to Franklin.

It has crossed my mind. It's not Ohio State or Notre Dame, but he has roots in Pennsylvania. To me the crap thrown against the wall is more credible than it ever was for most other jobs, including Michigan, Michigan St, or NFL jobs.
That buyout would keep ISU in the black for over 2 years. Just think about that

Fair point. But there will be advocates for Campbell. And he would have significantly more financial support. Hard to say he couldn’t win “the big one” if the resources were there
