UMass should just drop football and go back to the A10.

You can be very competitive in basketball if you'd stop spending all your money on that football program.

Should they go back down to FCS for football? They won the National Championship at that level in 1998.

They certainly could. The FCS they left isn't the FCS of today but if they wanted to go play in the limited scholly Patriot League with Villanova and Richmond it might make some sense for them.

The Patriot League caps scholarships at 46.5 instead of the FCS 63.

UMass is heavily invested in football and expects to increase NIL expenditures going forward.

"UMass had an NIL budget around $2 million to construct its 2025 roster — the highest number in the MAC by a longshot, according to athletic director Ryan Bamford. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reports that the figure is expected to grow to $3 million in 2026, supported by a staff pool of over $2.7 million, which also projects to be the highest in the conference."

Have huge problems with what Kirby Smart pulled. He can explain it way whatever, but if your coach lies to the refs in broad daylight, why should his players be honest with him. Someone with integrity and backbone needs to come down hard on him.

The conference needs to do something about that. He clearly pulled a fast one on the refs. Personally, I think that deserves a game suspension for Smart. Just to let him know that sort of thing will not be tolerated.

The only people I see defending Kirby are from Atlanta. The whole country saw this.
