Interesting to see Pollard discussing the possibility of raising student fees to fund athletics, but very little details mentioned here. It feels like this is the direction it will go everywhere, but seems like its another hit to the fans, and ones that are already accumulating lots of debt just to attend.
Agree. Seems like the best solution is for the Iowa legislature to pass a tax on the sports wagering businesses. They are making many millions in profits off of betting on Iowa State/Iowa games. It's only fair they support those entities that are generating so much profit for them.

Took a look at jr’s u bill a couple of semesters ago. He already was in it for over $1k in fees for the semester (which is ridiculous right now).

Having it go up even more makes me glad that he is almost out of school.

As controversial and counter intuitive as it may seem, the faster universities embrace a for profit mind set the better, especially for their own longevity and survival.

Can’t spend the entire budget (or risk losing it) like you used to…….

I think somebody on here did some math the return from such a tax isn't going to be nearly as impressive as one might hope. Certainly not enough to cover very much of the NIL $21m/y payments.

It's happening at a lot of universities already. ISU has been resisting up to this point.

I don't have all the answers, but ISU HAS to make more money doing something soon. If not, Ames will be a "Cold Omaha" very soon.

Edit: Up here in Minny, I believe the U Of M students are paying over $200 per year.

And Iowa has the lowest percentage of taxing as it is. They could double it, give that to the schools and still be lower than other states. This would benefit all 3 universities and should be a slam dunk.

An employee who earns close to $1M going before a body of students who are lucky to earn a few thousand a year while paying $25,000 a year for their education, asking them to take on fees that might eat up perhaps 3-5% of their annual earnings, all so that we can afford to pay student-athletes. Because the $141 million that his department generates tax-free every year isn't enough to keep pace.

Ain't that America.

College Athletics are well on their way to pricing out the average fan.
