I'm not thinking that at all. Read it again.

Take LW over I-35, then drop south to 30. You come out about a mile or so east of I-35, at which point 30W, 30E, 35N, and 35S are all easily in play and likely way ahead of the congestion of everyone else trying get on 30E at Duff.

People act like the interstate 35 and 30 are the only way out of Ames. They act like University is the only way on to 30/35 from Ames.

And the idiots directing traffic out of the parking lots believe the same thing. They force everyone the same way and wonder why nothing moves.

Jesus people, going an alternate route is way faster than sitting 2 hours in a line not moving. Sometimes you might have to take a 2 lane road, sometimes you might need to go a little west to actually go east, sometimes its better to actually go north to come south.

You want to go south to Des Moines? In most cases it would be faster to go north to the 13th St onramp and then go south to DM, or go to the South Dakota onramp and turn back east toward 35. Or maybe continue south to Slater etc.

If we could get people to try some alternate routes and get the people directing traffic to let people go alternate routes I would really help.

I don't understand why non-donor season ticket holders can't buy a GA parking season pass... they already figured it out for Donors and at varying levels of donation. It's so trivial to add that feature that would make a person believe it's not mere oversight... I just don't understand the rationale to not offer that option?

I'm a non-donor season ticket holder and had no issue buying GA parking passes. I'm fairly certain we received an email that informed us of the day they went on sale. The only issue I had was that my credit card company suspected fraudulent purchases on my card because you have to buy each pass individually.

Why did you "have" to go south on Duff? You can keep going east on Lincoln Way and drop south to 30 just east of 35, then cut back and still come out way ahead.

I live in Omaha. I was trying to go west but was forced by traffic control to go east. It's kind of a long story, but the point is, I had no option but to go east on Lincolnway. And once you do, Duff was my only option to get turned around to head back west. They block off University if you want to go south from Lincolnway which is what I needed to do to get to Highway 30 and then go west out of town.. Seemed to me if they kept cars moving on Duff, it would help people get away from the stadium because Lincolnway was barely moving, especially the right lane, because people couldn't hardly turn onto Duff.

I park in the grass lots on 16th and live in Grimes so my only option after games is take 16th East to Duff then get on 30 to go West to South Dakota then south through Slater and Polk City. My biggest bottle neck is getting to 30 because they don't do enough at 16th and Duff to push the traffic out from 16th at that light so it backs up. There litterally is no other way to go than East on 16th if you park in the grass lots.

In years past I was able to take 16th to University to get on 30th and got out much faster and I get the reason why they won't let you do this anymore so they can keep University flowing. I'm not sure taking 16th then turning north on Grand to Lincoln way to head West to South Dakota is going to be any quicker either as I would assume Lincoln way is pretty messy after games too. They've shut down traffic going certain directions trying to get traffic out quicker but the execution is lacking to make it as efficient as it was intended to be.

They need a policeman at 16th and Duff getting the traffic moving from that point, because it causes a bottleneck as only one lane allows your turn right to get on 30. You would have been better off going from Lincoln way to Grand, go north up to 13th, and left all the way down to N. Dakota and back South to 30. It would have been out of your way, but faster than trying to South on Duff and getting down to Duff off Lincoln way.

The city, police and the university need to sit down and work out a plan to get people out and moving faster than what they currently do. It's only 6 or 7 games a year, for a couple hours after the game. Something needs to be done.

The Grass lots SHOULD only be aloud to go either East on 16th or North on University.

Once on 16th I can give you about a dozen ways to get out of town and go to Grimes, that does not include going south on Duff.

16th to Grand, to Lincoln way to Dakota,
16th to Grand to Ontario to Dakota
16 to Grand to Lincoln way to 30 to Hwy 17
16 to Dayton to 30 west to Dakota
16 to Dayton to 30 west to hwy 17
16 to Dayton to Lincoln to Teller to 30 West, to Dakota or hwy 17

Really the only lots that are aloud to go south on University should probably be the S Lots.
All Grass lots should be required to go on 16ht
All lots on Jack Trice way should be required to go 4th st
All lots on Center street should be required to go to Lincoln
Or similar.

I dunno about that, it's a big jog north and a lot of stoplights I don't see it being any faster. It's about 2 miles north to 13th from Grand where from the same intersection to Duff is about .5 mile. Once you finally get to turn South on Duff its pretty quick to hop on 30 West which is a speed limit drive. Total distance from grass lots to on ramp to 30 West is about 1.25 miles and 1 stoplight where the other route is significantly longer and many stop lights in busy traffic.

They just need to turn SE 16th to completely 1 way when game lets out and allow 2 lanes to turn South on Duff and 1 or 2 to go straight or turn left at the same intersection. You can't get on 30 going either direction at Dayton but you can take Dayton North to 13th to go North or South on I35 for anyone that needs to head North or take a slight detour to head south or east. If you need to go West out of town, Duff to 30th is really the best route without driving through the heart of Ames. That intersection at Duff just needs better coordination with the City to flush traffic out faster. Maybe even shutdown southbound Duff north of S 16th for a bit.

I'm assuming you mean 16th and Duff instead of 13th and as long as you ignore that it completely gridlocks Duff that's a great plan.

Really it would not be hard for the city to put a couple more officers directing traffic at a few more intersections like 16th and Duff, and Lincoln way and University etc. Relying on the traffic lights is part of the problem when it is that busy.

Its only a few days, and for an hour or 2 that they would need to do it, but they wont.

Is Dayton closed because of construction? I went that way a year or 2 ago and you could get on westbound? But they might have changed that.

It sounds like your traffic moves a lot better than others. Because if traffic moves toward duff and 30, faster than having a few stop lights on Grand or Lincoln, it seems like you are moving pretty well. Because other lots it is a LOT longer wait to get out to a highway, and its not even close. Leaving the B/C lots is usually at least 2 hours minimum in line before you even get out of the lot, most of the time its better to break out the tailgate gear for a few more hours because you wont leave any faster anyway. When I parked in the Grass lots they forced everyone toward University and refused to let us turn towards Duff, it was a nightmare, trying to force so much traffic towards University is insane. I wanted to go toward Duff and they forced me to turn toward University, which was a standstill, even after an hour in line in the lot. Almost no traffic was going toward Duff.

I do mean 16th, not sure how putting a cop there moving the traffic onto 30 is going to make it any worse than what it is now for people traveling down Duff. If you are on Duff after the game, I would say that is on you.

Its not bad to loop north and then west and back down south on Dakota, I do agree they should close 16th street down to all four lanes going east, even if they did it just to Grand. You could turn on Grand and on 13th go east to the interstate or west down to Dakota.
Saturday we got out fairly well, out of S5, south on University, west on 30 to Dakota and then north over to 13th to Stange. Took us longer to get out of the lot then getting home once we were on University.

Well, since you asked, I was not in the lots. I street parked up by Highway 30. But my wife has trouble walking long distances. So we left during the 4th quarter and I had her wait outside the south end zone. I walked/ran for about 15 minutes to get to my car, only to realize there is no way for me to go on University to pick her up. Everything is barricaded. So I ended up going out west to Dakota, then north to Lincolnway, then east back to the stadium. When I got to University, it was blocked going south. So I parked my car in the right turn lane there, got yelled at by the patrol officer. I told him my situation and he said tough. I said, well can I leave my car here and walk the mile or so to the south end and then help her walk back here. He said OK. So, the next 30 minutes or so was me walking/jogging up University to get my wife and help her walk back to Lincolnway. We got in our car and then had no alternative but to merge into eastbound traffic on Lincolnway which was crawling along.

Really if you are getting up there in age, and one of you has trouble walking you need to talk to your doctor about getting at least a temporary handicapped sticker, so you can park in the handicapped lots. Unless this was the only game that you plan to attend. The handicapped lot is the only lot that still takes cash, and is first come, first serve. But if you have the sticker, they have to find parking for you close to the stadium, if that means putting you into a high dollar lot that is what they have to do by federal law.
My wife also struggles to walk, and it's a pain to find parking sometimes.

I get that but it's still a d!ck move by the athletic department. This is going to cost future single game sales too.

I disagree. You have options. Buy donor parking. Buy single game parking when it goes on sales. Park on streets to the east and west of stadium. Parking garage and free parking by the Union. Plenty of options.

Not anymore. They used to have GA parking sales for season ticket holders on M & T, of home game week, then open sales to all others on Wednesday. GA sales were open from the start for all games.
