On Saturday I am going to try to park on campus at any of the public parking areas. This will be my first time trying this option. From anyone's experience of parking on campus, how early does a person need to be there to find a spot? How fast do these public parking areas fill up?
About the same time as lots open up. Kids who have to park at JTS move their cars to these lots also.
I got season tickets back in 2022 without parking and would park on the bottom level of the Gerdin parking ramp. Not sure if that fills up now, but I would usually get there about 3-4 hours before kickoff and there were always plenty of spots. The top level was always full though.
As BC stated, the kids that park around the stadium have to move their vehicles out of the stadium parking by Friday nite, so many park them in the public lots around the university. You can use the Cyride to get from the lots. They have a couple off 13th street the far north edge of the campus that is usually open when we drive down to the stadium.
Don't forget about the MU Ramp. Something like $15 or $20 for the day I think and much closer than any free lots.
Not sure if this idea was discussed in this thread yet but thought of a way to eliminate the scalpers that are making a killing off the GA Parking this year. Why not go back to the 1st come/first serve model where you pay when you enter the lot like it used to be? Yes I know they love making the money off the Ticketmaster fees and selling out online but this is truly the only way to eliminate the scalpers. That or make an option to buy the GA parking passes with your season ticket purchase and make those non-transferable. Yeah would suck if you have to miss a game and eat the cost of the pass but it beats having some guy halfway across the country buying up all the passes in advance and making a killing off them while the average fan pays the inflated prices.
Wouldn't it be great if you know these incredible machines we call computers, we're capable of running a program that I don't know would be able to limit the resale price to equal the initial total cost at point of first purchase and use a FIFO system. No that's not possible okay lets keep the program that allows a seller to chose their price and then have the system mark that up for money back the intermediate and better add taxes on that again. That must of been an easier program to write.
I don't understand why non-donor season ticket holders can't buy a GA parking season pass... they already figured it out for Donors and at varying levels of donation. It's so trivial to add that feature that would make a person believe it's not mere oversight... I just don't understand the rationale to not offer that option?

That said, this year seems to be much different in ticket availability. I suspect it's turning away potential (and new) season ticket holders. I hope the situation is made clear to JP.
I'm a donor and choose vet med because the majority of my tailgating crew is not (and get GA, which is a short walk). One of them planned ahead and got GA for each game when they were listed. Another did not. We have a new convert (from Iowa) who didn't know and we didn't think much of it (most games were available 2 weeks ahead).
Tl;dr (TOO LATE) Prices/availability coupled with the exceptionally poor post game traffic management out of GA/VM there's a decent chance next year will have 4-9 less season ticket holders... only because of PARKING. Many weekends can be difficult to work up the motivation to drive 4 hours round trip for a 3 hour event, especially when it's coupled with frustrations before and after the event.
It needs to be fixed.
Related... I may be hitting one of you up to tailgate with... I make a mean brisket and frequently do philly cheese.
For a couple years, my family and friends would park on campus, and walk in to tailgate at my spot in the Cytown area. It worked decent enough. Not a perfect situation but worked.Good point. That makes sense.

One thing is, them parking outside the stadium area, meant they were able to walk to their cars, and many times be home or at hotel long before I even was able to get out of the lot.
Whoever is in charge of traffic to and from the games needs to be fired, The plan, or lack of plan, they have had for several years is probably the dumbest thing I have seen. Forcing everyone to go to the same road and/or onramp is idiotic. Every parking exit should be made to go a different way, and it should be made public on maps as the what exit to take to go what direction. You send some towards different parts of town, different ways to get on 30/35 etc so not everyone is trying to get on the same place. (although I have seen some idiots that get out then u-turn back into the opposite way because they thing they must get on 30 at university apparently, instead of going a few blocks to Dakota with very little traffic)
It really is a very simple fix, all GA parking must go out to the east on 16th street, divide up the on site parking and either force them to the South or to the North, depending on which lot you are parked.
Stop allowing people to cross University at ground level, either force everyone to the bridge or better yet, build another bridge that allows people to quickly get to the GA lots. It does have other be fancy, just a pedestrian bridge to get people over University.
Did everyone find parking on Saturday without having to walk quite a ways down to the stadium? We left N. Ames around 2:30 down to Dakota then back east to the stadium, the church on the south side was only half full, out by the west towers. Not sure why the university cannot provide a Cy Ride out there to take fans to the game. We have a lot of people parking on that golf course off of Grand down to the south by 16th, same deal, put a bus there and take the fans down and drop them off. They could also park people out by the middle school on that road if they had busses to carry the people down and back from there.
We went to Clemson a few years ago, they also have a lot of parking away from the stadium, but they had buses waiting to take you down from 8:00 am until game time. They would drive down, drop off the people and then come back, after the game, you got on a bus, they ran the entire route and when you got to where you were parked, you got off. Took us maybe 20 minutes to get our lot, some were in church parking lots, ours was by a lake, west of the stadium. If Clemson can figure out remote parking and using buses to get fans to the stadium, surely ISU can do the same.

I agree with several others, we are not likely to buy season tickets next year only because parking is so poorly handled. Saturday we ended up having to go east on Lincolnway and then south on Duff. What a disaster. There should be traffic control on Duff. There must be 12 stop lights just to get to Highway 30 and because they are all so close together, when you get a green light, you can't move because of the next light is red. And Lincolnway east gets backed up because Duff isn't moving.
I'm sorry but trying to use Duff with
1. normal Duff traffic
2. gameday traffic coming from 4th
3. gameday traffic coming from 16th
is a you problem, not a Duff problem.
I get that but it's still a d!ck move by the athletic department. This is going to cost future single game sales too.
Their job is to get people away from the stadium, not escort them home.
Why did you "have" to go south on Duff? You can keep going east on Lincoln Way and drop south to 30 just east of 35, then cut back and still come out way ahead.
If you’re thinking go south on Dayton and enter 30 , that doesn’t work. They close the Dayton ramp after games
