I think referring to them as a hawkeye house would be a good start.Port-A-Potty. I never heard the term Kybo until I came to ISU. It's definitely a Central Iowa thing. I always assumed it was a company/brand thing.
There's a local company here that has theirs branded as "The Out House"
I’ve lived in 5 states. Kybo is definitely a central Iowa term. Porta potty is most common term I’ve heard/used.Never heard Kybo until this thread. Port o john/potty is what I know them as.
Grew up in Iowa, never called them or heard them called Kybo's except on this site. Maybe regional????Apparently I've lived my entire life thinking that "kybo" was common slang to describe a port-a-potty. It seems to be a local Iowa term.
Have never called it anything else and I grew up calling them "kybos"
Used the term on a teams call at work today and not a single other person on that call knew what I was saying.
Did anyone else learn this term as a kid?
This. It is a DSM/central Iowa thing only. Next thing to shock you with. That little area is the only ones that do the dumb joke stuff/beggars night too. Don’t move and act like we are the weird ones for not doing it.I’ve lived in 5 states. Kybo is definitely a central Iowa term. Porta potty is most common term I’ve heard/used.
I was thinking the same thing and similar year.First heard the term KYBO on RAGBRAI in 1987.
Dug around on facebook (for hours) and most sources seem to trace back to ragbrai in the 80s.I was thinking the same thing and similar year.
