***2026 Minnesota Vikings***

The defense was not stellar, but held their own despite being down a few starters.

The offense is also down some starters, but KOC needs to do way better with what they have. McCarthy is going to have PTSD soon if KOC can't get a little confidence built up in a hurry.
Yup. Agreed. KOC has got to start working in some short slants and start being creative. Usually he is, but for whatever reason McCarthy has KOC nervous or something. It’s strange to watch. I trust KOC to be better, but like you said if he doesn’t start changing the game plans then he’s going to ruin McCarthy for good and we will be back in the market for a QB. Either help him succeed or bench him and keep coaching him/let him learn from the sidelines and practice and roll with veteran Wentz.

Going to have to remain patient this year with JJ. Step 1 is getting the line healthy to protect him and get a run game going around him, step 2 is continuing to get comfortable with the speed of play. He is still basically a rookie and is adjusting to the speed of the game. If he doesn't show tangible improvement by the end of the year, I will start to be concerned.

I also don't think Penix played that much better than JJ last night. He didn't make the bad interception throws, but he also had a rushing attack that got him over 200 yards and essentially took all the pressure off of him. Bijan is arguably the best back in the NFL and can make anyone miss, but I think it was pretty evident we were missing Cashman last night. Ivan Pace also probably had his worst professional game. Lots to shore up on the rush defense before Cincy next week
Penix is also 25 years old vs 22 for McCarthy, while being drafted one pick apart. McCarthy clearly has a lot to learn, but I think we should keep in mind just how young McCarthy is.

It’s going to be a bumpy ride, but hopefully we see real progress from McCarthy as the season continues.

I wouldn’t mind a 5-12 season if it meant we knew McCarthy is the real deal by season end

A 5-12 season is not unrealistic. KOC needs to shore things up fast to keep McCarthy's confidence in check. Otherwise it could get very ugly very fast for him. Not to mention JJ#18 is not going to want to hang around very long if the ship doesn't get righted in a season or 2.

The center has a concussion. And our replacement LT has one also? Is that right? We have 2 linemen out with concussion now. Better put a TE on the left side to help out. There is 4 starters on D that didn’t play last night? September could be tough to watch. Is bye week coming real soon?

Looking at the Vikings schedule, 6 wins seems about right:
Bengals- W
@ Steelers (Dublin) - L
@ Browns (London) - W
Eagles- L
@ Chargers - L
@ Lions - L
Ravens - L
Bears - W
@ Packers - L
@ Seahawks - L
Commanders - L
@ Dallas - W
@ NYG - W
Lions - L
Packers - L

Steelers, Seahawks, and Commanders all seem winnable, other than that it is going to be tough sledding. Hopefully we can get healthy and get on a roll with JJ continuing to improve throughout the year, but it will be a grind this season

Sounds like short term IR isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Time to be entirely overly dramatic and claim that Brosmer is our Brock Purdy and JJ is our Lance. Wentz is the Jimmy G in this scenario, will get injured in the next week or 2, Brosmer will come in and kill it and KOC will have a decision to make

You don't bench a guy that fast. Especially not with what he did in the second half a week ago.

This is probably legit.
I’m not saying he’s not banged up a little bit. But if Wentz comes out slinging and looking like Darnold last year, McCarthy won’t get back on the field this season.

That door is absolutely open.

I just took it as you saying that KOC was benching him and calling it an injury. If Wentz is a wash, JJ's back out there when he's healthy.

Being that Kwesi is the worst GM in the NFL at drafting (2021-2024, dead last in picks still on the roster) 32.4% success rate..... that Brosmer could be a franchise QB, since he went undrafted. If the Vikings would let someone else do the drafting, they might have a chance.

The absolute necessity is to be able to give him time. They have failed to do that. It’s one thing to make them pay for a blitz by hitting a hit route. But he doesn’t even have time for that.
Lost the left tackle, who is the back up and center who helps make line calls...not saying jj played anything close to well, but that is tough to overcome for anyone

I know, it’s a tough situation for a young qb. I see a lot of potential but some of those hits he took didn’t look good. Plus the poor kid will be seeing ghosts soon if it continues. I have faith in KOC to get him right but if he doesn’t JJ wouldn’t be the first young qb to fail.
