We need to change the tone on here a little. When was the last time you had a really nice surprise? The Friday before the Iowa game I was down in the basement watching the Chiefs game in the man cave when our daughter called and they were having trouble in the upstairs bathroom and the toilet was leaking all over the place and she needed help. Have to say I was pissed, we told her to find the valve and shut off the water and we would be right over, here I was hoping to have a nice quiet night at home and watch the Chiefs and now I am fixing a toilet. We drive over, I make my way upstairs, go into the first bathroom thinking the granddaughters had plugged it up, and they are telling me "no, its in mom's bathroom." So I walk in and standing in the bathroom are our two sons, they had flown in from Dallas and S. Carolina to go to the game with me. I have to say I was in shock seeing them, plus they had beer, my wife was dumbfounded seeing our sons standing there. We went back home watched the chiefs, got up bright and early to see the Cy/hawk win and then we had to have them back in DM at 4 Sunday morning to get on their flights back home. Just a great surprise and with all the crap we have been through this summer, I needed a little pick up my spirits moment like this. Anyone else have something nice happen to them lately,

And we beat the Hawks

My wife and I went out to supper for my birthday back in March to Prime and Providence. I was told that after supper we would be meeting my sister and brother in law at Smash Park for a couple of drinks. Supper was wonderful, then we went to Smash Park only to find my wife planned a surprise 40th birthday party for me with family, friends, in laws, nieces and nephews. I didn’t get the chance to make it around to everyone before they left as several drove 3 hours to make it, but I was touched by the turn out. Never had a surprise birthday party (or any sort of party) until that day.

Edit: I love the idea and spirit of this thread. The tone has been rather sour around here as of late

When daughter called to let the wife and I know that she was awarded a full tuition scholarship for med-school. $40K per year for all 4 years.

Her debt will be minimal when she's finished. No loans through undergrad.
Congrats man. That's huge. Good for her, and you.

I'm a big fan of Ludovico Einaudi, an Italian classical pianist and composer. For the past several years I've kept an eye on his touring locations because I'd love to see him live, but most of his concerts are in Europe, Asia, Middle East, maybe NYC and/or San Fran, but seeing him live never seemed like it was going to be in the cards. Then a few months ago my wife surprised me with tickets to see him this October in Nashville, at Ryman Auditorium, the original Grand Ol' Opry. Apparently she was keeping an eye on his touring as well and found out before I did that his 2025 tour had dates throughout the U.S. Very cool surprise, very excited to see him.

I added him to my Spotify list some time ago because someone here gave rave reviews. Was that you?

In my home town I spent a huge amount of time fishing at a spot and when I go back in the summers I'll still pop over and wade around a bit and catch a few smallmouth or whatever's around.

The river was up and generally muddy/turbid all summer so couldn't really wade much but around some pools I still caught a few smallmouth here and there.

I don't know...life can feel a little rugged at times but sometimes it's just nice to do something that's always been a spot to find some balance and it's refreshing knowing the fish are still there.
