I can why this wouldn’t raise red flags with the NBA office (assuming they weren’t told it was a no-show endorsement. I thought the company was also a landscaping company, but it looks like really it plants trees to offset carbon emissions, it had tons of employees, and had multiple celebrity endorsements. It also wasn’t accused of fraudulent behavior until 2024.
Based on that, I can see why the deal looked legitimate. It’s not like it was ABC Landscaping, LLC with no employees or business presence.
I’m curious about how the clipper’s owner/the clippers are tied to the llc. That wasn’t made clear in the video

Losing 3-5 first round picks, especially in this era of the NBA, would be devastating. That ruined the Timberwolves for years.

I don't think Silver is probably as harsh as Stern but if this is true there will be some big repercussions.

Lol, this sounds exactly like college football in the 1960s and 70s where boosters for big-time programs would give cushy no-show jobs to players at their car dealerships or whatever.

doubt anything serious comes of it. Sport leagues these days care about putting good products on TV for money instead of enforcing fair-play or rules. They will be punished just like Michigan was "punished"
If this really happened I wouldn't be so sure about that. The league is run by the owners and they aren't going to like their colleague breaking the rules. I'm sure there are other owners who wanted Kawhi when he was on the market and lost out to the Clippers because they cut a side deal.
It is crazy in coastal CA how much you have to trim down trees, and I marvel at how severely they trim them down each year in my building then six months later they’re at least as big again, but I have never seen celebrity endorsed tree trimming business. I suspect my bill for it will go up a lot next year with half of the trimmers suddenly gone.
