Zion Griffin

I don't think ISU has the talent to just up and attack on offense.
They don't have the right guys to just grind and try to dirty up a game either. In fact they probably lean more that attack on offense direction by nature, even though they aren't good at it.

Stansbury made a good point on the CF radio show this week. Prohm has said for this team to be successful, they need to play good defense and be more of a defensive minded team. The problem with that is that has never been the identity of Iowa State under Hoiberg and Prohm, so its really hard to do that when that's never been your identity.

Play your best offensive players, that includes Lewis. Its our best chance to win.

Zion playing the 4 is probably our best option offensively at that spot.

The 'we need to be better at defense thing' sounds great but is only more difficult to watch when ISU looks so lost on defense. The tactic vs. KU was to double the post when they basically play two really good posts, then go to 4 guards/Conditt that looked more planned than a response to what KU was doing.

And it's not only doubling, it always seems like it's really obvious doubling instead of maybe just having someone flash to the post from behind to get them thinking and scrambling.

Feels a little like when we didn't know who was going to be starting or playing at QB week to week in the CPR era.

I still don’t understand why people think Lewis is that good.
Do people think Lewis is good or do they just think the guys playing above him also haven’t proven anything? If I’m ever vocal about giving Lewis a chance it isn’t because I think he can save the season but more so that we are 7-7 and the guys ahead of him haven’t done much either so giving him a chance won’t kill you.

He played 36 minutes in the worst loss in college basketball history.
And you could make the argument we don’t even have a chance to win it at the end if he doesn’t play in that game. That’s how bad everyone else on the court was outside of maybe Bolton and Conditt.

true. And it’s not like it’s completely fair to him since tyrese wasn’t playing. Although tyrese was garbage Wednesday night.

I just think he’s gotten plenty of chances. He played quite a bit Wednesday and was not great.

First of all, you're a terrible person for making me go back and look at that box score. Secondly, I am not advocating for him to play 36 minutes a game like he did in that one. But getting him 15-20 minutes a game off the bench to shoot a few 3's might be beneficial. We already suck at defense anyways; might as well have another outside threat on the floor.

Guy can make outside shots, that is something that no one else seems to be able to do. Yes, his defense is not great, but who can anyone name as a great defender on this team? Give the guy some more time. Honestly, how much worse can it be?

If there is one player that can change the trajectory of this season, I believe it's Zion Griffin. He's got good size and athleticism, the four-star credentials, and last game, he started to show his ability to knock down the three-point shot--something that is desperately needed on this team. I really hope this is one of the lineup changes Prohm makes against OU. Start giving him significant minutes, and start feeding him the ball and building his confidence. Somebody on this team has to start stepping up on the offensive end, and I believe he is our best candidate.
Agree with this...but he needs to be coached well to improve and I’m not sure this staff is capable....
