Yankee Stadium turf

Take a look at the field in this photo from the Rutgers/Army game. It is a mess.

I surely hope that the turf doesn't end up being a factor in the game. I'm afraid that the warmer it is, the worse it will be because the turf will be loosened up. If it is like Wrigley Field last year for the Northwestern/Illinois game, they put plastic over the baseball field and then created a new field with sod. I'm sure that the Yankee Stadium grounds crew is awesome with a baseball field, but I imagine that there is only so much that they can do with temporary turf.

The turf has had a month and change to sit and has been used once in two months. I'm not too worried. They've had plenty of time to fix the problem spots on the infield and get them rolled in correctly.

Do you know what you are talking about? I have trouble imagining what you could do with the seams other than letting them grow together over the Spring and Summer. But that wouldn't happen during the Fall (after baseball season).

Of course, I don't really know anything about turf, so I hope you are right.

Mentioned this in another thread: when the put the sod on the infield, after The Yanks got dumped in the playoffs (ugh...), they made the "strips" to thin/small, which led to the clumps being torn up as such. They've told our officials that the problem has been rectified and the field held up much better, earlier this month, for the NY City H.S. championship games.

Yes, I read this in the local paper in the last few days. All is well -- also read, CPR has walked the field and declared it in good shape.

I have a Turf degree and this makes sense. If you lay sod on the infield(especially) without giving it time to root down you will have an issue especially if they did it the way you said they did. I will be surprised if the stadium crew doesn't have the field in tip top shape come game time.

Years ago, Heinz Field in Pittsburgh hosted a high school tournament, a UPitt game, then a Steelers game for Monday night (all in one weekend). They re-sodded, thinking it would be okay, but given the rain and lack of time for the turf to root, this happened:

Years ago, Heinz Field in Pittsburgh hosted a high school tournament, a UPitt game, then a Steelers game for Monday night (all in one weekend). They re-sodded, thinking it would be okay, but given the rain and lack of time for the turf to root, this happened:

Ya that is what happens when you play on turf that is newly laid and wet conditions arise, let alone the traffic multiple football games played on it. There is nothing the field manager can do about that. If there is adequate amount of time between sod being laid down and limited amount of traffic on the sod it will be fine.

I had grass seed germinate last monthon my front lawn in eastern Iowa .

Just got done with Hort 351 with Christians. Loved the class, but hated the damn fungicides, especially since I'm a landscape guy.
