I was just trying to be a bit lighthearted since it's obvious we won't agree, but I guess I can respond one more time.
I just don't think it's that useful to focus on the Ohio game (which you did in the very first post I responded to), maybe the worst game of the Campbell era and an enormous outlier given the season they went on to have. We all know that it's tough to have one fewer home game every other or every third year. But there is obviously a financial benefit, because otherwise Pollard would have zero reason to do it and Campbell would keep him from doing it.
Ultimately, we're talking about a road game that Iowa State, in any year that we are a bowl-quality team, should be able to win easily. ESPN has ISU with an 86% chance to win at Arkansas State. If it were at home, let's suppose that it's a 91% chance to win. I don't know about you, but I'm comfortable with giving that up if it means there's $500,000 or $1 million more available for other uses. For instance, if that money is used to help keep Jon Heacock around, he is worth far more over the course of the season than a slightly lower chance to win that single game.
I also wore the same T shirt, Shorts, shoes in Dublin and for South Dakota (washed of course. Normally wear a hat but didn’t.
I am also wearing the same for Iowa.
And I will all the way. So if we go on a very capable run, it could be a cold one vs Kansas.
Don’t forget about the benefit of not traveling and injuries/fatigue and such. Playing on different and possibly subpar surfaces. And in the case of Ohio….subpar food.
Wear and tear for a potentially 16 game season.
Plus the positives for boosters and season ticket holders to gain a home game in very fine weather.
My argument is there are more intangibles in play than just money. It can’t be much difference if you factor the intangibles along with home game revenue.
…..and BEER SALES
And if we do the 1 for 1 , it should be a destination or the program/ athletic department gets a little more in return.
