this kind of relates to the poll that was posted about who your favorite ISU team is. Who wins in a game last years team vs this years one. I personally think last years team was better, but think it would be a hell of a match.. What do you think?

Post #1000 on this years team vs last years... But last year. Honestly, who can stop Royce White. Allthough, this was a more complete team, not relying on one person, but if like I said, who stops Royce White on this team? If he dishes it to all the shooters on last years team, it would hard for this team that lacked defense for most of the year to keep up. BUT if this years shooters were on, it's hard to stop. If it is coming down to the wire though, you have to go with last years team because they knew how to finish.

Last Years:

Babb vs Scotty - Adv: Babb Shuts Scotty Down
Lucious vs Allen - Wash
Clyburn vs Babb - Adv: Babb Shuts Clyburn Down
Ejim vs Ejim - Wash
Royce vs Niang - Adv: Royce dominates the Freshman

Bench:
McGee, Bubu, Booker vs. McGee, Bubu, Boooker - Adv: This Years, More Experience

I say Royce makes the difference, and last years was better, NBA talent against a freshman would be a huge matchup they would exploit. But this years team is a little deeper and a little more experienced. IMO.

If 2012/2013 Fred was wise, he'd pick this game to be in Hawaii. Then 2011/2012 Fred would be forced to play without Royce . . . :jimlad:

I went to what if sports and put the 2 teams in playing on a neutral court. 12-13 team won game 1, but 11-12 won the best of 7 series 4-1. Royce and Boys had a couple blowout wins there. 11-12 got out to a 6-1 lead, and 12-13 team then rattled off 3 in a row to make the 10 games series a 6-4 edge for the fighting Royce Whites.

Thats what would happen.

Not bad analysis but I really disagree with the bolded. Ejim this year progressed a ton from Ejim last year. Really hopes he takes similar steps forward into his senior season... It will be special if he does.

Not only that, but while I agree Royce would dominate Niang on offense, he was not the greatest defender either, and I think Niang gets his on Royce on offense too.

No way, not a chance. Lucious gave this team the ability to play much faster and get up the court faster. The biggest weakness of last years team was the lack of a true point guard. Plus Georges can shoot the 3 making Royce guard the whole court and making this offense much more potent. Royce was (is) limited as a scorer by his lack of shooting on offense. Not saying last years team wasn't better, but your simple comparison does not really do justice to just how talented offensively this years team is. The biggest advantage I could see last year over this year is Royce being a lot for our interior D to handle, and probably getting Ejim and Niang into foul trouble by driving to the basket.

Last year's team would win on a buzzer beater.

I agree, if 13 Ejim and Niang stay out of foul trouble, I think 13 wins. If Royce bangs down low and gets them into foul trouble right away, 12 wins. I do think 13 had too much fire power for 12 too handle if we stayed out of foul trouble. Again, Georges would score just as much as Royce if not more. Lucious makes up for Royces assists, 13 Ejim makes up for his rebounds. I really think we had a better team this year, just some unlucky bounces and calls away from a better seed or a longer run.

I think I'd take this year over last. Don't get me wrong, I loved last year's team too... but I think this team gets the edge.

12-13 > 11/12

Korie & Clyburn > Allen & Scott (25 vs 24.8 pts/g, 268 vs 148 assists, 305 vs 182 rebounds) Better defense from Korie and Will IMO (Chris and Scott get the advantage in TOs though)

Babb, Ejim, McGee > Babb, Ejim, McGee (a year older, significantly better stats, and better play for all three of these guys)

Niang < White (12.1 vs 13.4 pts/g, 64 vs 170 assists, 160 vs 316 rebounds, 53 vs 130 turnovers, though white averaged 6 more minutes per game as well) White was also a bigger defensive presence in the middle than Niang.

There are just too many weapons on this team that last year's team couldn't stop. White vs Niang with Ejim helping in the paint isn't enough to make up for the significant advantage of Korie, Clyburn and year older Ejim, McGee, Babb vs Scott, Allen and the younger versions of the returners.

I think this years team was better, but has some lower moments (Such as lapses, and bad luck to say the least.) Part of what was so tough about last years team was the mismatch that Royce presented, but overall I think this team was better. probably could have accomplished a bit more.

Who is our resident stat expert that usually does rundowns, maybe he could put something together.

It would be like the da Bears playing the da Bulls . . . It would be like matter and antimatter combing - such a match-up would tear the fabric of the space-time continuum and destroy the planet, meaning the United Nations would have to step in prior to the match to prevent the mass destruction

Bob Swerski: Alright, contestants, here we go. The Final Quiz Masters question is: "Bears vs. Bulls." Write in your answers now, gentlemen. [ music plays ] "Da Bears vs. Da Bulls." [ music ends ] Okay, that was a tough one. Let's see what our contestants said.

Bob Swerski: "The waste of pitting these two mighty forces of nature against each other, like matter vs. anti-matter, will be a tragedy, not only for the teams involved but for our planet. All nations must band together, to ensure that such a conflagration never takes place."
