Who tries to poach Rhoads?

Pay the man...sit back and enjoy the ride. He is going to be at ISU for a long time...this is his home. The passion that pours out of him wouldn't be the same in any other place.

I love Rhoads. But I think we make a mistake if we assume that he loves Iowa State more than anything. What I think Rhoads loves is his football team......I think that would be the same at Pitt, Iowa State, Auburn, UCLA, etc. That's why I think it is so important that we drew big numbers this year. Anyone who listened to him last year knows that the attendence bothered him.

Rhoads is going to get looked at for almost every job that opens up. There is no way that we can match the type of money that he could get. But it is imperative that we get him above #10 in the Big 12. He probably needs to be at no less than $1.5 million. He could probably demand $2 million-----Turner Gill is making that at Kansas.

I honestly think ISU has nothing to worry about, at least as long as his parents are still alive.

It was reported in the game thread last night that JP tried giving CPR a pay raise this last offseason. CPR declined the pay raise and told JP to sink that $$$ into facilities. If that isn't love and dedication to the university that you work for then I don't know what is.

Paul's not going anywhere. He's got a dream job.

I think he really likes it at ISU, but more money, easier recruiting and a more stable conference would look pretty attractive. Dispite what happens on the field football is expensive and ISU will always be one of the teams that struggles with that end of things.

I'm sure he'll stay and I would imagine JP will figure out a way to double his salary at least, but I do find it hilarious that there are a lot of people who say things like.....

"He already makes a lot of money, what's an extra million or two, when you're already making $1m/yr?"

I'm sure there are people in other parts of the world that can't imagine how anyone would need any more than $50k/yr, but I'm guessing every poster on here would jump ship to a different company today if they could triple their salary.

Give the man everything we can. I think he is an ISU lifer, but for God's sake pay the man.

IIRC, when he was hired, CPR's dad said he loves Iowa State but he also wants to win. So my take is: he'll leave if he decide he can't win. But the victories and upsets should be more than enough to convince him that he can win in Ames.

If EIU can go bowling consistently, why can't Iowa State ?

This is correct but I bet he realizes that we can't compete with Auburn, PSU or other big schools from the salary standpoint. However, I believe he knows that, let's say going to certain schools, he could risk getting fired after 2-3 "not so good" seasons using their standards (7-5 or 8-4). There are different stress factors hAt ISU, he's probably guaranteed to have his name immortalized when he retires.

For some reason, I don't picture Rhoads leaving for any amount of money. Don't ask me why I feel this way, but I do.

I agree. I don't think for a second that we'll be able to pay him $3+ million like some of these schools, but we have to get him in the neighborhood of $2m, IMO. That is how much Snyder makes at K-State and I see no reason we can't get in that ballpark.

The fact is, Paul has proven he can do more with less than just about any coach in the country. He's also a true Cyclone and will be content here, as long as we make a commitment to winning, and he's paid fairly.
