When will Clone fans starting respecting UNI?

Please do not lump all UNI fans as dual Hawk and Panther fans. There are quite a few of them, but they **** me off so much. I hate the Hakweyes with an intensity that you would not believe. I cheer against them no matter who they are playing. I will actually cheer for Iowa State whenever they do not play UNI. I really like what Paul Rhodes is doing, and I don't think we will be close to you in years to come with Rhodes at the helm.

You do not have to respect us. As fans there is no need for respect, and I don't care if you respect us or not. The problem is your players don't respect us right now, and they need to. You will not beat an opponent if you don't respect the fact that they could beat you.

I agree with most of you, and I wouldn't be happy about losing to any team 5 out of 6 times. Just don't degrade UNI. We are what we are. I am not going to stop being a fan of UNI. If you think you have it bad now just look back to what Panther basketball fans had to endure under Sam Weaver. I wouldn't completely write The Mayor off yet either. He is a first time coach, and will get better. I think Iowa State could get to where you want them to be with Hoiberg at the Helm.

Sorry for the rant. Good luck the rest of the way and I will be cheering for you. Especially against the gosh forsaken Hawkeyes!

I agree with this guy. Hawks suck

Riiiiiight...

We will start showing them respect when 90% of them stop being "dual" fans of UNI and Iowa.
Well maybe I'm the only one,but I cheer 4 them when they aren't playing us. So I'm a dual fan of UNI and ISU. As for last night, this is the first thread I read and the last post I'll read for a few days since I learned how posters react on here a long time ago.

I respect UNI. Good program.

I don't respect Drake. That's the loss that really pisses me off. There's no excuse to lose to those scrubs. They've had 1 good season in the last 25. UNI has been steady for several years in a row now.

You and your Hawkeye brethren are not so dissimilar...

Whatever kool guy. When UNI is playing UI, 100% of ISU fans are cheering for UNI. When ISU is playing UI, 99% of UNI fans are cheering for UI.

So you're not a purple hawk, very proud of you.

PS Farley's a duschnozl.

So, there is this smaller school, and they wear purple. They have sub-standard facilities, and have always been the underdog/little brother in their home state, have always played in a smaller conference, and have always had a smaller fanbase and attendence, bordering on sub-standard in some cases. Comparatively speaking, ISU is 3 times their size, and should be able to beat them every time they play. OK. Here's the rub.

That small school that wears purple? It's TCU and the sport is football. For the record, they're smaller than UNI by 3,000 kids. Who among you think that ISU will blow them out in football next year? They're a well established program you say? Maybe, but so is UNI. 15 years ago, TCU wasn't much of a threat in football to anyone. Even back in the old SWC, they weren't all that great most years. Now, they get a lot of respect. UNI has been Iowa's flagship basketball program for most of the past decade. The average HS kid in this state has little if any memory of Iowa or ISU being great at basketball. Today's HS seniors were in Kindergarten the year ISU went to the Elite 8. What I find funny is that both after the loss to Purdue in 2009, and the loss to Michigan State (after knocking off Kansas) in 2010, the opposing players said that UNI was easily as good as several teams in the B1G. But, since they're a small school, they shouldn't be as good; never mind they've had a system in place for almost a decade, never mind they've got tons of experience in close games, never mind they've played teams in major conferences every year; never mind that ISU is rebuilding with almost all new players and a 2nd year coach; ISU should have blown them out last night. Hmmm.

I've always been a Cyclone fan, and have been for 40 years. However, the reaction I've seen on this board in the past 24 hours is really interesting. Had the Clones lost to Wisconsin, or Minnesota by only 7 would we see this reaction? My guess is no. I work with a guy who is a fan and alumni of Kentucky and he doesn't get anywhere near this worked up when they lose a game in an upset. Why? They're Kentucky, and 9 of 10 times they would beat whoever upset them. This reaction, is different. This reaction is the recognition and disgust, that if ISU and UNI played 10 times, UNI would probably win 7 of them. I can see how several posters can't stand the fact that UNI is the better program right now. However, anyone who realistically thought that ISU was going to return to former glory in just a year or two with almost entirely new personnel is dreaming. I really hope the Cyclones do well. I always have been a fan, and would love to go back to what it was like in the 80s and 90s with Johnny, Tim, and Larry. Those were good days. However, before those good days, ISU had days in the wilderness too. I remember the late 70s/early 80s, and those years too. Actually, in the late 60s and 70s, Iowa's best basketball program was Drake. Those were not good days for Iowa or ISU. My point is that programs rise and fall all of the time. Be patient, Cyclone fans. Better days are ahead. I went to UNI and love my Panthers, but I've always been a fan of the Cyclones too. Not all of us Panther fans are Hawkeye fans first. And, I honestly don't think that Iowa will finish within 10 points of the Cyclones when they play. Your players have the makings of a wonderful team. But, teams take time to build.

Got another Panther fan that absolutely hates the Hawkeyes here. Both my parents attended Iowa State and I grew up cheering for the Cyclones and hating the Hawkeyes. I think you'd be surprised at the growing number of people that are solely UNI fans with their recent success.

Fixed it

A very rational reply. Here's the rub though....we are so sick of losing to what we see as lower level programs on a regular basis. There is near a decade of built up frustration.

Longest post ever! I doubt anyone read the whole thing.

What he said!

This has been one of the most entertaining reads. It has really put a smile on my face. Hatred is a great form of flattery. I thank the ISU faithful for that. But wow, come on people. It seems like there are some intelligent ISU fans that post on here that get it. It's a game with college athletes and MANY of you are taking this too far. UNI won, now you "hate hate HATE" UNI? Why? "oh I'll never respect UNI!!!" UNI beat you, Drake beat you, ISU is 0-2 in the MVC, but I think it says a lot about the type of person you are to take a game of collegiate athletes and because you lost and you were probably the kid on the playground that took his ball and went home you can't just say "wow that was a game we had chances to win and just didn't do it". Fact is none of you have the balls to go up to a neighbor, co-worker, etc. that's a UNI fan/alum and say any of this b/c you know it's all hot garbage so you come on here and say the most absurd things. It's pure idioCY. Get over yourselves. Go Panthers.

Best of luck the rest of the season. Go beat Michigan.
