Also the highest ranking in February since February 2001. The 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons both finished at 9 after the season and had some times in the top 10 earlier in the schedule, but spent most of the conference season in the 11-19 range

I wouldnt say that they don't matter.

Committee members would likely be lying if they said they weren't considering it among their array of factors. And from a marketing and recruiting perspective it doesn't hurt to have us consistently rated highly. It also helps increase the number of viewers on our games as games with the most highly ranked teams will be the most promoted by networks.

They don't use it at all. They just don't.
From a marketing standpoint you obviously want to be ranked but picking nits on a few slots doesn't mean anything.
