Wells Fargo Financial Elimination

The jobs mostly are in auto finance, leasing and collections.

Wells was never a sub-prime lender in the traditional sense of the word.

not as much as others, for sure, but they definitely got into that game.

Worked at WFF for awhile, dont miss it, but hope anyone i knew there comes out alright (depending on what happens to local employees)

Every lender was in the "game"...but there weren't any no doc, interest only, etc type loans.

Purchasing Wachovia definitely exposed them to bad debt however.

Keep in mind that number reported in the register is misleading. WF only has to disclose num of full time employees ousted. You can probably add another 1500 in contract employees.

Does this mean someone from WF is going to stop calling me every week with some new product that I just have to buy(or try free for 60 days) ?

Nope, lol. Those callers are from Home Office most likely and not from the stores :biglaugh:

Got a source for your extra 1500 number?

So in other words you pulled it out of your ***....just wanted that to be clear.

No, that number is not out of my ***. I worked there during the last big layoff in 2007 and saw the amount of employees and contractors shown the door. I'm also very familiar with the current situation.

Contractors on an expense sheet are the same as a piece of computer equipment. WF does not have to say anything about the number employed.

My Dad works for the branch in Sioux Falls. Apparently their branch is safe for now. I talked to a friend from the WDM branch, and he told me all the underwriters and DSM processors are getting moved to Home Mortgage, and that "except for fulfillment, all of WFF is gone"

You are crazy - be glad you have a job because I would bet most of those 3800 folks wish they had your job.

youre correct in saying that but im trying to work a schedule to go back to school full time so im actually looking for something else with flexibility to do so and its not a possibility where i am now....so apples and oranges i guess

Good luck with that - in this economy most people just don't realize how good they have it. I worked with a guy who got cut loose and it took 12 months to find another job and at 50% to 60% of the pay.

It's tough out there and it isn't getting better very soon.

Just a guess, but if they're "closing" 638 stores and only 12 are in Iowa, my guess is alot of those position aren't in the DSM area. And the ones that are, are more likely to be moved to other operations. Obviously not all - and best of luck to those not so fortunate. Not good times right now.

There are a lot of central operations in Des Moines. I worked in a building 2 years ago that had about 300 employees in it.

no doubt bout that....i work in loss mitigation with all the people trying to keep their houses so i see it everyday. Economy is BAAAAAD!

Maybe they can start with the people at the SEC who seem to have plenty of time to surf internet porn all day at work while less then honest folks rob investors blind.

I'd blame the greedy folks who are robbing investors blind before the neutered SEC.
