WBB recruiting-Iowa

Tha's why beating them emphatically is a must for us ! We should follow what Hayden Fry did to our football team: beating the Cyclones really bad and therefore built a fan base. We should do the same to them: crush them and show the girls in Iowa that there's only one real WBB program in the state: ISU

I see they just closed out (maybe) their season with a Minnesota big.
As spoken here, Bluder is closing the gap with us by landing very good talent.
Her inability to outcoach Bill is her problem.

I agree, but I think the talent we have landed is pretty good too. I like that we are getting some more athletic players, and to be honest, happy to see some diversity entering the team. Sam Logic is awesome, but I have heard good things about Moody too, and frankly, its easy for Logic to be a stand out in a small pond, rather than Moody, Ellis or Williamson who play in much more competitive regions and will be more D1 ready because of it. Yes, Logic blew up on the circuit, but it easy to be a terrific point guard when you had the team she had. Johnson is good too, but her high ranking came from playing in front of ESPN Hoopgurlz camp.

I also think BF is recruiting players that fit the ISU scheme well. And that might be his ace in the hole when it comes to recruiting.

Given "this fills out the 2011 class," there's no room for Stokes unless a scholarship opens for some other reason ???

Let's be honest. I don't know much about womens basketball. If Stokes wants to go there they will find a spot for her. It would be alike a 5 star recruit wanting to play for Freddy after we filled up the roster. Fred would find them a scholly.

Stokes is making her official visit to Iowa this weekend. Both Logic and Johnson are going to be on campus with her, to add to the sales pitch.

For me personally, womens basketball is just hard to watch. I know a lot of people really like it and that's great. The womens game just doesn't appeal to me for several reasons. Not knocking the players or fans, it's just not for me.

These gals must all be uncomfortable playing in front of crowds bigger than those they are used to in high school!

Seriously, some of the Big 10 schools play to nearly empty arenas. Some of the games they pick up on the Big 10 network have NOBODY in the stands. Some of the games look more like closed practices! At least the local Gophers here in Minneapolis have fans in the stands. Attending Cyclone and Gopher games I am used to see good crowds and when I see the kids at other schools playing with no fans I just don’t get it.

Let's not get too carried away with the Iowa recruiting class. If they add Stokes it would be a good get, but remember she has dropped steadily in the rankings since her soph year. Logic is a nice player but I think ESPN has her overrated. She will struggle with athleticism (at least she would in the B12) and was not even on anyone's radar 6 months ago. She will be a nice player for them but do not see her as an All-America type. Johnson will be another solid BCS player but I would take Hallie over her any day. The rest are average D1 players at best. Their latest commit Doolittle was shopped by her AAU coach to everyone in the Midwest and IA was the taker.
All that said they have a nice class but it is not going to thrust them into the top 10 anytime soom.

They want to get ready to feel the atmosphere in the WNBA :jimlad:

There are 4 schools in the Big Ten that averaged more fans then Minnesota last year. The Big Ten doesn't get the same attendance as the Big 12 but they do have 7 of the top 32 highest averages. It isn't that bad.

I get sick commenting on Iowa here on CF, but you've got to be kidding, calling their class just "nice." Forget about Doolittle, she's a throw-in.
But BF offered Virginia Johnson way before he offered Christopherson; there is no comparison in athleticism between the two. Johnson is a great player. And Logic, another "nice" player? Good god. She has absolutely dominated all-star tournaments this past summer. What are you smoking? BF recruited her hard, as he did with Stokes.
Yes, I'm confused, as Bluder has the personality of a cardboard box. But to pooh-pooh the commits is laughable. Her 2011 class is already spectacular, and if they get Stokes...

I must have been watching Northwestern.

I do think Minneosta attendance has been down the last couple of years because they have underachieved per local expectations. I do see that Iowa is behind nine Big 12 schools in attendence. I still don't get the interest in schools that seem to have a lack of fan interest in the sport. I am biased of course but the only person I have known that played WBB hoops at Iowa transfered out.

Tornado, you are right on. They got some great talents.
Here is something today for you all to chew on and regurgitate!!

Education is also a big part of WBB recruiting, Iowa and other big 10 schools have some good programs. I think that might be another reason for the recruits to go to Big 10 schools.

Logic is ranked 10th by Hoopgurlz, and 12th by Bluestar, she is way better than nice. From reading about her, she really put everything together this summer and made huge strides. She had an offer from Stanford. Johnson is 62nd at Hoopgurlz and 100th at Bluestar. Melissa Dixon, Bethany Doolittle and Kathryn Reynolds didn't rank in the top 100 at Hoopgurlz. Dixon is #165 at Bluestar, Reynolds is #203, and they have not added Doolittle. This is a strong class for Iowa, and if they could get Stokes it would be really strong. The key for the past several years for Iowa has been injuries. If this class could come in and be injury free, along with the rest of the team, they could go along way.

RE: Kiah Stokes. Worth a look/read.

Thought the article says only one scholly, word from Knoxville is there will be 2 available if need be, and that a EW or IH commitment won't hurt their chances with Stokes nor eliminate her chances for a scholly.

TN loses 4 posts in 2012, so Kiah will have a chance to play early on, not many get that chance at TN.

Andraya Carter is stoked about Kiah Stokes GoVolsXtra

Stokes enjoys visit to Tennessee::Eastern Iowa High School Sports

"I love Pat Summit, she is great on and off the court."

Bluder has outrecruited BF... plain and simple. They will have more talent than ISU.

The question will be whether or not BF can outcoach Bluder enough for ISU to be better?

What is not in question is which team will have better attendance? Iowa's WBB will NEVER approach ISU in that area IMO. I don't know any Iowa fan that cares 2 cents about WBB. The place is empty. If I were a good high school women's basketball player, I'd much rather play in Hilton.
