Brown has some of that game in her, however, I think Bristow is quicker and is a better scorer. Brown looks like Carleton 1.0 while Bristow looks like Carleton 2.0.
Last Fall, I thought Bristol if I had to pick the one I would want on a team. Then I was convinced Brown has the goods. Now, I would take both or either. That's a good problem when both are highly regarded.

What BBQ joint in C.B.?
The last time I was there was before covid.

In October/November I used to tour Iowa BBQs. I'd start in Council Bluffs and take several days and work my way east to Ames. And then take in one of those crazy three or four sports weekends (MMB, WBB, VB, and especially football) and eat at Battle's or hit Jimmy's in Boone.

As for BBQs in Council Bluffs, there were four back then: Boxer's, Hog Stop, Hog Wild, and I think BBQ Brothers. Hog Stop may be defunct-it was a fun dive right off the I-29 by the casino with great side dishes (corn bread, beans). It moved and then likely bit the dust. Boxer's was good for BBQ chicken. Hog Wild is a KC chain and very good.

Brown and Bristow are both much better shooters than Diew. I have watched her shoot too many three's that didn't seem to have a chance. I am not overly impressed with her finishing inside either. She is a good effort player though.
I think in their post-season interviews, BF told players the team was going to play bigger and more inside-out. Soares gave him a taste of it like he’d never really had since Angie Welle. Thus, Donarski and Fritz saw the 3-4 guard offense dwindling, and they’d be sharing a lot of playing time. For Ryan, it offers all sorts of option for assists and even shots.

I think Bristow and Brown will both be starting by Christmas. Isnelle will start at post and of course Ryan at the point. Dies will be the energizer bunny , spelling 2 through 4 positions. Crooks backs up Isnelle and Zingaro get some time if she continues to develop. Kelsey Joens starts as the shooting guard unless we get a good Div I transfer, or Belanger is even better than advertised.

I think Kelsey is a very good recruit, and can shoot the ball. Not certain she is physically ready to be a starter

I hope she is more Ike Ashley then Aubrey!! I was sad to see Aubrey depart but I hope Kelsey is a more skilled player then Aubrey that doesn’t disappear for games at time… Aubrey was similar at OU very streaky but she was a Lao a back up to Taylor Robertson… Arianna Jackson will be interesting to see as well as she could be out starting PG in the near future. Does Emily have a Covid season?

Yes Emily has a COVID year. If I was to guess right now, she is going to take it. That class is the last to have the extra year.

I wasn’t sure if she got that year but I agree I think she will use it she could use the extra year Ro develop more for the WNBA but seems to be a hardcore Cyclone!

I hopes Joens is great but I really think Belanger is being underestimated. The hoop in D2 is still 10', the 3 pt. Line the same place and the ball is the same size. The game will be different but if Ryan can kick out to an 47% shooter it will cause the defense to adjust.

She is thin with narrow shoulders, but she can shoot the ball.
I am concerned about her being B12 ready - from a physicality standpoint. Guess Stacy Freese was good, but the game has changed.

Here is some highlights of Jalynn from her junior year. She is long and athletic. Looks to me that she will be at her best if we can get out and run in transition. She has good handles for her size and has the quickness to get to the basket. She also appears to be able to guard multiple positions on defense. I’ve seen her listed as 6’2” and 6’3”. I don’t recall us having a player with this length and athletic ability in recent years. If she can shoot or can develop a 3 point shot, watch out.

Here are some game highlights for Addy Brown. She is a very skilled offensive player that can score at all three levels. She is a very good and willing passer. At 6’2”, I don’t know that we have had someone that skilled at that size in recent years. She looks very comfortable on the wing. She appears to have the size as a freshman to guard the opposing teams 3, 4 or 5. Jalynn and Addy’s skill sets seem to very much complement each other. They played AAU together. It will be fun to see how they develop at Iowa State.

Holy crap - that was a fun video to watch. Amazing reach. She seems to be one of those players where the ball just knows where *she* is and finds her hands. This one is a very good 'get', for sure.

These highlight videos of Brown and Bristow are very impressive. Both have great ball handling and shooting skills to go along with their size/length. Thanks for posting.

And let's not overlook the other exceptional members of this recruiting class:
-Kelsey Joens (Iowa Gatorade Girl's Basketball Player of the Year ~ an award to the top player in the state)
-Ariana Jackson (very steady, talented guard who was MVP of the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association (ICBA) all star game
-Audi Crooks ~ top 50 ish recruit and I ICBA Miss Iowa Basketball for 2022-2023 with very unique skill set and interior presence that will be very impactful over year upcoming years at Iowa State (more than posters are thinking)
...if this doesn't show Iowa in-state recruiting ability, I don't know what would...

...and congratulations to the coaching staff for the two impressive portal additions -- a sharp shooting guard and a physical post player. Hopefully we add one more solid guard/wing player via the portal, but regardless - the results thus far to address the needs made more immediate by transfers has been impressive.

About a year ago, Maryland/Brenda Frese (former Iowa State assistant credited with securing Meghan Taylor coming to ISU) probably had the most impacting/severe loss of talent to the transfer portal (including two first team All Big Ten players) and she/her coaching staff responded by bringing in five transfers to mesh with four freshman (9 new players!) and two key returning starters to produce a #2 seed team in 2022-2023 that made it to the Elite Eight.

I am not saying I expect this level of success next year, but I am impressed with the coaching staff's transfer portal success thus far and even more excited about the incoming freshman class.

While the transfer portal departures are very disappointing in the short-term, the future looks a lot brighter now than it did three weeks ago. Congrats to the coach staff for both the portal transfers committed and the exceptional group of freshman coming in. Looking forward to seeing how this team comes together and surprises folks next year as the season progresses.

Good hands, crafty and sneaky. Good court vision. I’m excited. Time for a nap.

Here are some game highlights of Arianna Jackson. In these highlights she appeared to be playing off the ball. She shows the ability to be a very good three point shooter. You can tell the opposing teams are trying to prevent her from getting those shots. She also appears athletic cutting to the basket. Highlights in hudl are limited but if she can shoot the three at a high rate and play great D she will be a big help to this year’s team.

Kelsey Joens doesn’t have any Hudl highlights, so video is limited. No doubt Kelsey can shoot the three. In these videos I can see some Ash in her game and some Aubrey. She appears to be in the middle somewhere. With playing time at the two available, I am sure she will be ready for D1 basketball and in the mix.
