US Open 2026

You tell us. I don’t think he’s Just an AA threat after that weekend. I know basically nothing about free compared to folk. All those pushout points he was getting vs Ross might get him a stall point or two or none depending on the ref. Hes going to need some go to moves. Metcalfs style might suit him well though.
He started the match with a TD on Ross. And he is a pretty damn good rider. In folkstyle that match may have been 3-0 with 2 minutes of riding time after the first. He’s not going to light up the scoreboard against the very best guys (at least right away), but his style will win matches. Just look at his brother who implements a similar style of stingy defense, good position, good mat wrestling. If anything Coby has more offense than his brother who made the NCAA finals.

He is a Cohlton Schultz but not as boring as him lol

What a weekend for Merrill. A ton of matches and he was still going hard for all 6 minutes there. Cant wait to watch him in Cardinal and gold next year
If he would have finished the Senior tournament, I have no doubt he would have finished better than sixth. I also think he would have given Hendrickson a better match in the finals than that other dude gave him.

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the story on Mastny? Age? Weight? Where is he from?

I believe this is an old article. Because I think he is ranked #1 at 215 now by some service. Anyway he has one year left and then will be our 197. Great pick up.

Willie has him #7 at 190, but is still waiting to do his final big board rankings until after this weekend. Ladd Holman of Utah is the only junior ranked ahead of him

Watching Merrill matches (highlights only), it didn’t look like there was as much pushing going on that some are saying. Watched him dig a couple underhooks, and finish those shots, against Paris. He did the same thing against Ross and Ross bailed backwards for the push out. Then it just seems like that’s how the match evolved from there. Got caught leaning a couple times and I’m sure that will be cleaned up.

People saying that won't work in folkstyle apparently don't really get it. Yeah there are no push out points (yet), but controlling the center of the mat and wearing guys down translates just fine.

How many heavyweights this coming season are going to be able to handle his physicality? I’d guess not many.
Your highest returning 285 AAs are Ferrari (if he can find a home and if he stays at Heavy), Kueter and Christian Carroll. I like his chances against all three of these guys. All are in the 220-240 range as will be Ross if he doesn't redshirt to bulk up.

Add in getting called for stalling and big time environments where there are a lot of nerves and emotions. Guys are forced to actually open up a little more and wrestle. Dreshaun was allowed to take a lot of down time. That won’t happen in folkstyle and the pace and pressure because more of a factor.

I really think Carroll would be the toughest of the three if he was wrestling as well as he did at CKLV. He was at his best during CKLV in my opinion.
