Toure

He's averaging 20ppg the last 2 years in the 10 games he's played against Power 4 opponents. Definitely overrated offensively.
And at a pace in the 350s.

He is a great offensive guard in college. He just got matched up against an elite defender.

Fizer averaged 16 and 7 as a freshman.
Lindell Wigginton averaged 17, 4, and 3 as a freshman.
Curtis Stinson averaged 16, 6, and 5 as a freshman.
Freddy averaged 12, 5, and 3 as a freshman.
Sullivan averaged nearly 12 a game on 45% 3pt shooting (Big 12 FOTY)
Tyrese Hunter averaged 11, 5, and 4 as a freshman (Big 12 FOTY)
Brackins averaged 11 and 5.

He have had some absolutely awesome freshman in our history. Players that were ready physcially and mentally right away. A lot of these guys were heavily focused on by the opponents defense, and we're not surrounded by All-Americans. Fizer was a stud from the jump, on a team that had no other options. Guys like Monte and Jake and Toure had awesome senior mentors to lean on. Guys like Stinson (and Blalock) and Tyrese Hunter did not.

I love Toure. I think we're so lucky to have him and I think there's a real chance we only have him for one year. But I do think it's hyperbolic to call him the best freshman in our history. I'm not remotely ready to call him that. Certainly feels like he might be the best defensive freshman in our history. I would have given that award to Tyrese Hunter before seeing Toure. I think folks forget how awesome Tyrese was during TJ's first year. He had absolutely no PG help at ALL. Even won to send NCAA tournament game. He was an awesome defensive player in TJ's system. A shame he left.
I was in school and saw most of Fred's home games. Man, he sure was good from jump - especially the game against Acie Earl and the ******* hoks (98-84) in 1991!

Don't sleep on Jeff Grayer - that's the top frosh I've seen at ISU
As freshman I recall seeing, I thought of Grayer comp not long after Toure's first few games. Different position and role, obviously different era, but the main mental link is thinking how he "plays like he's already a junior" (for lack of better description).

THT looked a bit that way, too, although seems like he may have been a little less consistent.

Barry Stevens did pretty well right out of the gate, too. He kind of needed to carry more of scoring load in those days.

THT had good ball skills but seemed to kind of tune and out and I don't remember defending all that well.

Toure seems to be 'defend first, let the offense come with the game' type.

THT had superior physical abilities, but seemed to lack some of the mental maturity/focus. He was a freak of nature with his size, length, and scoring ability. I recall the intensity not being there entirely.

THT ended up getting benched by the end of his freshman season if I remember right? He did seem lazy at times, Toure is definitely a much better defender.

I think he still started most of the time but I know he'd get pulled after so many turnovers or drives to the hoop into traffic.

He was kind of a microcosm for how that team operated.

He was unique with his size and skill set. Reminded me a little of Draymond Green at MSU.

I found this and put it in a different thread, but this one is probably more appropriate:

Toure (or Touré) is a prominent West African surname and name meaning “strong warrior,” “brave,” or derived from a Soninke word for “elephant,” common among Mandinka, Soninke, and other peoples in Mali, Guinea, Senegal, and Ivory Coast, signifying heritage, leadership, and resilience
