Speakers are fine size wise, smaller than my Klipsch RF 83s but WAF is a real deal. Wow her with the sound and hopefully in a few days she will not notice them.
Yeah, the real issue is how do they sound. It takes big speakers to produce big sound.

True is does, they like to sell smaller speakers on the idea that they will sound as good as larger one, which they never will. But they have high WAF which is why many wives love them. We have had a few of my wife's friends stop by and when they see the size of the speakers we had in the living room commenting that they would never have something that large in their formal living room. In our old home, that was really the only place I could put them, but when we moved to Ames, we put everything downstairs for me to enjoy. I was lucky I got away with sound bar and the smaller sub in the corner in the main living room, she opposed the idea of putting the TV above the fire place until I showed her and now she is fine with it, same with the sound bar. But satellite speakers off to the sides is a bridge to far, I am unwilling to cross that barrier. Take my win and be happy.

Mount the TV on the wall and you will not notice the speakers as much as you currently do.

Are those JBL 2360's? Those are amazing, but would definitely get me kicked out of the house!

I did manage to crank mine up over the weekend and test them at about 70/100 volume and it was insane. They need no subwoofer.

The crazy thing is that I had read that they had great instrument separation and I was like "yeah, right". However, both me and my younger son were listening to some songs we've previously heard a ton of times. We were shocked how clearly different instruments stand out and noticed all kinds of sounds we'd never noticed/heard before in those songs. My son was like "this is crazy!"

I am absolutely obsessed with them now. The fact that I had to strip them all the way down to the MDF, re-apply new wood veneer, stain, top coat them, etc. means they're probably not leaving any time soon. I spent 3 weeks working on them just to restore them, so I'm very attached now.

yeah, these are 2360(A?) horns with 2446 compression drivers and 2226 woofers. had to build my own passive crossovers to run them off a single amp, but i was able to find a schematic to adapt. my garage isn't a great listening environment for a lot of reasons, but like your Altecs they're special in terms of resolution and detail. my 60W tube amps give me more volume than i need at this point, but i haven't dared go more than 5/10. they need a little EQ to really shine, not surprising since they were installed behind movie screens and originally had dedicated DSPs in front of them.

You have GOT to bring these to a JTS tailgate.

well now, isn't THAT an interesting idea?!:campbell:
