If Bradford had played as well as Colt McCoy, the score would have been just as bad. We'd have fallen behind big early and probably rolled over again. I can't remember a pass by McCoy that was a bad pass. We broke up a few and there may have been a drop or two, but I don't remember a single uncatchable pass. Bradford had a lot of bad passes. The wind was no worse than Texas (I don't think), so I just account for the difference in experience.
Yeah, Tom Brady was a super QB as a college freshman. We all remember the hype as he was the consensus #1 pick after his junior year. Oh wait, thats not how it worked.
When someone calls someone, 'the next Tom Brady' or 'the next Michael Jordan' or 'the next Seneca Wallace', they aren't saying he's already there. If the guy was as good as those guys, he wouldn't be 'the next' anything. He'd just be a stud player who's good enough on his own right.

Its very likely that if Bradford had played better, it would have been a blowout. His play was probably due to an inexperienced QB getting rattled by the crowd and the weather conditions. Lord knows the wind does funny stuff in Jack Trice, but heaven forbid any opposing coach mentioning it.
One thing to look at is if the play differs from the norm. Does Bradford normally miss wide open receivers by 5+ yards? I'm guessing with a 70% completion percentage, the answer is no.
On the year, Bradford is completing 70% of his passes for an average of 13 yards per completion. He was at 57% Saturday and under 50% for a good portion of the game. Unless Bradford has a history not being able to throw the deep ball, I'd say his play against ISU differs from his normal play.
On the other hand, does Scales normally break every tackle? No. Does Meyer normally complete every pass? No. Is Shaggy mister automatic on the FGs? No. Is there any phase of the game where Iowa State underperformed to a significant degree of their norm? No.
Ha, I'm guessing you wouldn't hear anyone outside of central Iowa say that about anyone.
