Today is…

Today is what we have called in our family a ‘perfect day’ for decades. Clones win. Iowa loses.

Today was next level though. Both fun games to watch. Only we snatched the victory away on the road against a good team. While the hawks get their heart ripped out in the final seconds and still haven’t beaten a ranked team in basically 1500 days.

Enjoy the night! Go Cyclones!

When Iowa punched it in and just before ISU's 2nd TD it looked like 90% Iowa would win and 90% ISU would lose.

It was a total flip of fortune that happened right at the same time.

TCU got up to a 93.4% win expectation.

Iowa got up to a 79.9% win expectation.

Chances of things ending with an Iowa State W and an Iowa L after those situations =

(100% - 93.4%) = 6.6% * (100% - 79.9% (or 20.1%)) = 1.386%

Roughly one in 72!

Quite the thrill. I haven't felt this exhausted after a game since Iowa this year.

The crazy thing is the flip happened simultaneously in real time. it was about 2:00 in their game clock and 6:00 in our game clock but because Iowa and Oregon had both ran the ball all game they were ahead of us.

It was hilarious watching the Hok students getting ready to storm the field...

76.8% for TCU before the punt return touchdown.

79.9% for Iowa after the touchdown.

4.6632% chance in real-time at that point for both games to flip. About one in 21.

So more like 80-20 and 75-25 than 90-10 twice but yeah... both games looked over.

I actually flipped over to Iowa game in disgust.

1000%

I don't get it. My focus is on ISU, whether EIU wins or loses just does not matter to me.

How is it a Cyclone win can be matched either by an EIU win or loss? I don't get it. ;)

I know a lot of Cyclones like the schadenfreude when it comes to Hawkeyes. And that's just fine. I don't necessarily mind that they lost, wouldn't have been too mad if they won, either...

I was born in Iowa City and grew up Hawkeye fan (got an education and became a Cyclone decades ago) and..

All that REALLY matters:

CYCLONES WIN!

CYA IN THE JACK 11/22!!!
I will just explain it from my standpoint. I am sure many on here had similar experiences.

Most of us have many friends and family members that are hawk fans. Most of those hawk fans are insufferable when they win, when they beat ISU, when they have more than ISU, when they have a better season than ISU etc. Many of them are insufferable regardless, period.

I grew up surrounded by hawk fans, in an area, that was during that time probably 90% hawk fans. Outside my immediate family I was pretty much the only Cyclone fan I knew for years, in my extended family, in my friend group, in my elementary, in my high school. Literally, I knew more Nebraska fans even though we were on the other side of Iowa than I knew ISU fans. I even knew some people that went to ISU, but still were Iowa fans. I grew up through the long long losing streak. I grew up in the years of suck. But, I was always a Cyclone fan. I grew up in a time where you might get to see ISU on TV 1 time a year, if I was lucky. But, I was still a Cyclone fan. As long as I can remember, as long as I ever liked sports, I was a Cyclone fan. I dealt with hawk bullies, hawk arrogance, hawk trolls (before trolls were called trolls). Hawk fans were insufferable, they were terrible to be around, family members were absolutely awful when any kind of sport subject came up. Not to mention all the other regular talking points, like Moo U, Cyclones dont know their colors, Cyclones only want to be like the Hawks, its the Cyclones super bowl, being called the little brother etc etc. Not to mention the things they are known like throwing full beers at people, dumping cups of piss on people etc.

So while I would like to root for the hawks, while I would like to believe them doing good makes us look better, etc. I just cant. I despise the hawks. I truly hope they lose every game in every sport, for having to deal with their insufferable fan base. I quite frankly hope they are so bad they decide to fold up their Athletic Department and never play a sport again. Frankly, it would be better just to close the place down in my book, than have to ever deal with another hawk fan.

But that is just my experience, in why any day the hawks lose its an ok day, any day ISU wins its a Great day, any day that both of those happen in the same day, its an awesome day!

Amen. If you didn't grow up a Cyclone fan in the 80's or 90's, you can't really understand this. When I was little, we couldn't get Iowa State football games on the radio in Waterloo. I was too shy to wear Iowa State shirts to school in elementary school because no one wore them.

Even today, my friends that are Iowa fans never fail to get in digs at Iowa State. The media in this state continues to favor Iowa (i.e. Leistokow is clearly an Iowa fan and yet covers Iowa for the Register and I think Hines barely tolerates that he has to cover Iowa State for the Register). As recent as 15 years ago, no one in this state cared that Iowa State might not be in a major conference.

Iowa has 1 win against a team that will go to a bowl game (Minnesota) and they were being talked about for the god damned playoffs. Iowa State could finish with 11 wins and the playoffs wouldn't be talked about.
