I hear every season now going in how we’re so talented and I find my self mid season not understanding why it’s not as good as people made it out to be.

We do have a few really talented guys here at the top of the roster. Make no mistake. But at the end of the day, this team is a bunch of mid 3 stars. The depth breaks down for a reason once a McDonald or a Mike Rose leaves the lineup.

Having a 5 star culture is great, but talent still matters. It does and it stares us right in the face every time we lose one of these could’ve should’ve games. We’re basically a strong group of 5 team in regards to our recruiting. Cincinnati you could argue maybe recruits better than we do. Georgia southern could probably recruit an offensive line at our recruiting level. It’s no wonder we never get any push.

If we want to take “the next step”, then yes, that includes higher rated recruits. 3 stars can only get you so far, and that’s after really developing them.
I mean the class does look better next year. It’s a good first step. But will Matt Campbell stay around for it to get much better… I don’t know.

Campbell and staff are the best recruiters in ISU history and have improved the talent at ISU by a tremendous amount, but they still rank mid to bottom of the conference. Last season, ISU was on the winning end of breaks. If you take the lucky breaks away, they were middle of the road team. This year, the breaks aren’t going their way and you’re seeing a middle of the road team. All the breaks went there way against Texas Tech and still lost however.

If you want an unbiased look at the talent on your team and in your conference, take a look at the NFL draft and the current makeup of NFL rosters by college team.
I think I remember hearing something like UMASS has more first round NFL draft picks than we do…

Stop crying and being a b*tch. It's not a good look.

Well this incoming class is the best class Campbell has had per 247, so if you go by that then the future is bright. Iowa State will always be a developmental program; sure you might every now and then get that stud recruit like Lazard or Hall, but most of your good players are guys that have been developed after a couple years.

What’s your deal dude? Said the same thing along with a bizarre little mini rant in the game thread. Shocker but people are gonna be upset after a loss like that.
I'm only 38, but I've lived through objectively bad teams. Years of teams that fold when adversity hits.

This staff has raised the level of expectations on one of CFBs historically bottom of the barrel universities. Campbell chose to come to ISU. He's turned this program around.

If you can't see that, at least recognize why you're disappointed in a 7-9 win season.

Then ask yourself, who's actually responsible for those wins and heightened expectations. Then respond accordingly.

Or don't. It's your life.
