Things to do in Keystone/Breckenridge, Colorado?

Hey all,

In a few weeks our family is headed out to stay in the Keystone area. We are definitely doing whitewater rafting (Late season I know) in either Beuna Vista or Idaho Springs, however, any must do's within a 1-2 hour drive from Keystone? Any vendors/rentals (ATV's, Bikes...) to consider or watch out for is appreciated. Also, any Cyclone hangouts or owned business in the area that possibly would be of interest that we can support...restaurant, rentals...? Thanks in advance and Go State!

Alpine Slide in Breck, Outlet mall in Silverthorne…fly-fishing. I would go rafting from Buena Vista. Idaho Spring has some great micro breweries. Check out Evergreen. The Little Bear Saloon has a road sign from Ames hanging in it, along with lots of bras. Great live music there.

Agree Silverthorne is pretty cool. All day fly fishing tour from Cutthroat Anglers is a good time.

OP mentioned Buena Vista. We rafted the Arkansas with Wilderness Aware a few years ago and I would recommend. Really fun.

OP said “in a few weeks”. Skiing isn’t why they are going to the area. Ski resorts don’t open until November/December.

Piney Lake just north of Vail is gorgeous, lots of amazing fishing and I think there are horse stables for trail rides up there. Beautiful area.

That area has everything from water activities to ATVs to biking to hiking to golf to breweries and distilleries to ghost towns to gold mines to restaurants. I can’t really say anything is a must-do. Just be outside and plan on afternoon rain most days

Rent bikes (or take your own) and take i70 to the rest area at the top of Vail pass. From there you can ride/coast the 12 miles back down through Copper Mountain down to Frisco. Or go the other direction and end up in Vail (about 8 miles). Haven't actually done it myself but have heard it is great fun.

I think the same path also goes through Breckenridge.

Jakes Dive Bar closed a while back. So while you probably can't get dollar tallboys of Keystone Light anywhere, check out everything else! It's a great area.

Wife and I did this exact ride a couple of years ago and had a good time. Really easy ride so once we got into Frisco we kept riding around for a while to get a little exercise out of it. We also went to a beer fest in Dillon which was a great time.

Done this several times and it is a good time. The trail does continue from Frisco to Breckenridge, but that stretch gains a decent amount of elevation so be sure you are up to it before you decide to continue on.

It is a separate path. As I recall you did have to hop on a road for a couple blocks in the Copper Mountain area to get between trail sections, but in the few times I have done it I don't think I've ever had a single car pass by.

The Breckenridge Distillery is a good stop. They do a nice little tour and sampling.

As others have mentioned Idaho Springs is a good time. It's a good combination of having a cool, small town feel but still having stuff to do. The same can be said about downtown Evergreen.
