I gotta say I’ve never seen teams use tents because it’s kind of hot outside. I’ve seen the misting fans of course but never have I seen a bunch of 10X10’s up and down a sideline and this isn’t the first 90+ degree football game to be played. Maybe I missed it somewhere down the line.

They were forced to take the tents down because they were blocking the view of the field. The tents that ISU had were too tall.

If they would have submitted an application for approval earlier in the week then the height and location of the tents would have been taken into consideration and ISU would have been allowed to have tents.

What fans? I saw a lot of vacant seats on the hot side of the stadium. They could have moved the first rows up and had plenty of seats left over.

For all of the three fans that sat on that of the stadium in the sun.

the fans could’ve moved if their view was obstructed; the stadium was half empty

They paid for their seats and shouldn't have to move. If you disagree with this then you aren't thinking rationally.

I understand that you guys are mad and I understand why, but there are rules and procedures for these things.

ISU failed to get the tents approved and according to the existing rules that means that they weren't allowed to have them.

Yeah, you wouldn't want to block the view of the 300 fans that were at the game...the lack of attendance alone should show you something needed to be done about the heat. I don't know what the official number was but there were more empty seats than occupied ones.

Player safety wins over that. Otherwise we’d just keep playing in the lightning. That screws with fans too. I’d be curious to see actual dialogue from the issue but it should be something that Texas schools have established protocol just like we do for heaters.

It’s no one’s fault, but why is there always a controversy after everyone of our losses? If it’s not the officials, it’s the band, or the lack of tents. I think they are legit controversies, but just once I’d like to have a game without controversy.

I’d like to get the true story about the tents. But, probably never will.

I like how you disagree with facts, not an opinion, just facts.

Once again, there is a protocol for this (and lightning) and ISU didn't follow the protocol.

This is easy stuff guys. You need to realize that someone from ISU dropped the ball on this and that Baylor and the NCAA were just following procedure.

Here is a mind-blower for you, it's hot in Texas and football is played outside. Also, it could be cold in November in Iowa at an outdoor event.

I can't find an instance of any college football game ever being cancelled because of heat. Probably because that isn't a thing.

If you think that or want to say that Iowa State lost because of the heat then you are making excuses for a team that didn't play a complete game. Excuses are like ******** and a lot of you have them about this.

No one is blaming the result on the heat. Like I said I’d like to see the actual rules on them. I’d like to see what we did and how it’s normally enforced.

I’d like to see if any team didn’t follow the rules for the heaters and have the Big 12 deny them.

If we screwed up and the Big 12 followed procedures and precedent then fine. I just highly doubt that.

So by this logic, other teams coming into our stadium should have to get approval for heaters and coats prior to the game. We need to lay in wait and see if teams don't get that approval, and then ask the conference to take action during the game like BU did today.
Only against Baylor, I really don't think any other school in the conference would have been that douchey.

They were concerned about blocking the view of empty seats?

As much attention as the crew gave to the tents, I never once considered using that as an excuse to lose. It did probably have an effect for endurance in BU's favor, but you can't measure how much difference it made.

I do find it interesting how much our play improved once the field was in the shade.

If the tents were not up to snuff that is on ISU not Baylor.

Fatiguing your opponent should be a field tactic, not who got the shaded bench tactic.

My issue overall is all this hoopla about player safety, and all this could all have been a non issue by thinking of player safety and not playing the game in the hottest hours of the day. Honestly, we are lucky that we didnt have more injuries or heat stroke issues. 122 in the sun with a full gear and a helmet on for hours....they said the turf was over 140, that is serious heat on the feet.
