I have a good friend who is doing some work for a new coordinator's new house and was told CMC had 3 other standing offers, including an SEC school, and turned them all down to come to ISU. His line about loving the fans and environment was not just a line.

so yeah - keep the hype train rolling.

The CPR situation has to help some mit would have been easy to cut bait 5 years ago, whether we should or shouldn't have is not what I'm discussing, but we gave CPR many chances to right the ship. I think some coaches look at that and do appreciate that.

SEC offer was Mizzou, I'm guessing. Mizzou, without all the drama from this past year, is a good job.

Missouri sounds like the obvious SEC one.

What would the other two have been?

UVA?
Cuse?
Maryland?
Buttgers?
Minnesota?
UIUC?

I'm sure some coaches look at CPR's record and think "It may be a tough place to win, but look at how ******* low the bar is!". If you go to a bowl game it's considered an amazing coaching job at ISU.

Yeah, but going to a bowl game with our current schedule is a lot harder than making a bowl game at most schools. Its probably easier to win 10 games at Texas than it is to win 7 at Iowa State.

Iowa State and Texas play the same conference schedule... Iowa would have been a better comparison than Texas...

I get what you are saying, but getting top tier Texas kids to Texas vs recruiting to ISU are two completely different animals.

He was talking about the schedule.

Not completely true, replace one game against Texas with one game against Iowa State has historically meant an easier schedule.

So one game is the difference between 3 wins?

He means that a school like Texas should have higher expectations and results than a school like ISU in the same conference.

He came to a place with great fans, great resources, but without a track record of success . . . great opportunity to "prove" that he is the kind of coach who can make a difference.

Gives me hope that even with good success, he may love it here and want to stay. It was the great fan support that got him here and great fan support could help keep him here if he's a hot prospect in a few years. It's up to us fans to pack The Jack all game long and make it our football version of Hilton every week.
