I know this subject had been brought up before but does it bother anyone else that the East upper deck was basically empty last night? We have a top 10 BB team coming off a Sweet 16 season and the students can’t seem to show up unless it’s a “big” game.
Welcome to college athletics in 2025. It's not just Iowa State, it's everywhere. Kids don't care like they used to when we were that age.

My son is a student and predicted there wouldn't be as many students there last night. He said the combo of bad opponent and lots of exams this week would have an impact

Student section needs to be reduced to only lower bowl, imo
Yup, make it harder to get student tickets so only the best of the best go.

Could make a little more money if open to public/donors for that upper seating.

What was the excuse on Saturday?

This is where I like to brag about my friend, who during our freshman year, had a Chemistry test the night of a basketball game. I think the test was scheduled for 6:30-8:30 and the game was at 7. She took the test in 15 or 20 minutes, handed it to the TA who asked her if she was sure she was finished. She was and made it to Hilton right after tip off. She has a successful career despite this ;)

"Who TF cares about Cincy" would be my guess.

Things might be different if we were still in the hunt for a conference title or 1 seed, but jockeying for seeding against opponents we don't have much (recent) history with and are projected to obliterate isn't going to get you a packed student section.

The public shows up, so I say give those to the public.

There were plenty of empty seats all over last night (there was an entire row next to me in the parquet empty), the student section always looks worse because people pack to the front.

The public has an easier time reselling their tickets.

So? There are people in those seats---isn't that what matters?

How are student tickets distributed now? Do you need a student ID to get into the game? Or are the student tickets electronic like the rest of ours and just marked 'student'. If so, it would be pretty easy to transfer them to non-students.

I don’t think the general public was only 55% full last night. The student section was pretty much at 55% or so.

real question, would the old heads fill those seats for the same game if given the opportunity? was it just the student section that was empty?

Saturday the general public behind the basket was full and the students behind the basket was empty.

Yesterday was a pretty dead crowd overall but student attendance was worse than the general public.

are students still charged an "athletics fee" like we were in the early 2000's which got you into game for "free" to all events? or has that long since passed.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is a higher athletics fee and then they charge the students for tickets now because, you know, capitalism.

I'd say that there were at least 2 non-conference games during student breaks that Hilton was more full than it was for both games this week.

I don't know that I had a student athletic fee when I was there 1997-2001, but we definitely had to purchase season football and basketball tickets. They were cheapish---I think basketball ran around $100.
