Starting Lineup

Don't want to pile on MJ but has anyone noticed he releases his jump shot on the way down. Not ideal and could def explain why he hits the front of the rim.

I don't see Prohm benching MJ either. Too much of a leader with TH.

Yes I noticed that. Not that it would make a difference if he didn’t. I wouldn’t call him a leader either. Just because he got in an argument last year doesn’t make him a leader. Teammates decide who they consider a leader.

What's wrong with just switching out MJ with Conditt and playing both he and Solo at the same time? I think defensively it would help us on the boards and post defense.

I'm not sure either of them can guard a decent four on the perimeter or off the dribble. And even if our offense was better geared for some post moves, neither one is really efficient enough to justify the touches. Solo has shown to be capable of some really aggressive play, but he hasn't been as consistent as we need.

I'd love to see Solo develop into a rebounding machine, but he doesn't get himself into good position early enough. He's usually good for screening off his defender to allow a guard to drive through the lane, but for some reason he can't apply the same technique when a shot is taken.

If you can’t shoot you better crash the boards and play defense.

going small won’t help board and run, and seemingly won’t help out shooting.

Solo isn't a great leaper and I'm not sure he has great rebounding instincts. Rebounding is about effort, but it's also about anticipation and athleticism.

Hogue and Ejim were amazing at anticipating and grabbing the ball right as it came off the rim. Ejim was a freak. Morris was also good at grabbing weakside rebounds off the rim, and he was tiny. Solo's never got that down.

A smaller line up (if that's the case) worked a bit vs. TCU, but seemed to be thrown out there as 'the thing' vs. KU but I'm not sure the situation really called for it.

Wouldn't have made much difference but just seemed like it was sticking to the plan rather than pairing up.

I’ll be disappointed if there isn’t a change, and if it doesn’t involve Conditt starting and Jacobson coming off the bench.
Zero outside shooting. No room for either of them to operate.
Is Jacobson really a better shooter than Young? Jacobson isn’t a very high bar from 3 and Young is automatic from 15.

I'm not against starting Conditt for Solomon. It could bring some energy. But it isn't likely to solve our outside shooting woes. For that, we just gotta get Bolton and Tre to snap out of it (get a little confidence going). Plus, we need Nixon to nudge his shooting north of 30% (lower expectations for him).

PS -- Solomon shot the three well in HS; maybe that's the answer. (Only half joking)

Disclaimer, I haven’t watched much of any of the games.

But why not Conditt and Lewis?

I feel like defense is a lost cause. Lewis has proven he can hit an open shot. We need points.

True, but after going 3/5 his first game he’s 25% on the rest of the season. Taking out a guys best/worst game of course changes things, but as he’s shot terribly for 2 months now it doesn’t seem too misleading. I still say he’s awful from 3 this year.
Yeah I think they all are though

I've never believed that a starting lineup mattered much at all. All that matters IMO, is average minutes played per game. What if one of your starters only averages 18 mins a game, and a bench player averages 30 mins a game?

I do think it could be an issue if you are always digging yourself a hole right out of the gate, but that certainly wasn't the case against KU at least.

How about we put in Lewis in and everyone else set pick and let him blast away from 3. Play zone defense. Sure it is stupid, but it hasn't been tried.....

At this point I'm rooting for a lineup that will result in a deep NIT run to build team morale for next year.
People need to realize that the only way you make the NIT anymore as a P5 team is to be on the bubble and not make the tourney. We're not even close to that.
