Sims information

He was trying to put a positive spin on a criminal act - I'm not buying it.
If I had ever done something like Sims is now charged with, it wouldn't have lessened my parents' shame in me by telling them "hey folks, I didn't steal the cc, I just found it and then used it."
Hey, re-check what you typed. I agree, and I don't like that thought.
Not me that starts the ****, he just calls out everyone in every thread. The dude is like the gossip queen CF.
Well, queen is accurate, but you bring a lot of it upon yourself.

Original Post has been updated with new information. Details still are lacking but we do have charges filed.

Which I think is the most important piece of the puzzle, right?
My biggest question mark was whether Sims will be a Cyclone this coming season and I think that has been answered. You dont kick a player off the team for a first-offense misdemeanor. Even though it does happen to be aggravated.

If you are going to suspend Sims (which you have to!!!)...
I'd be all for having a "Silent Suspension", if you will. Tell him he is suspended but don't tell him the terms. Let him stew every week in practice on whether he will get to see the field on Saturday. Let him think about how much he wants to play the game on Sundays. Rub it in his face that this is his doing. He needs to lead by example on and off the field if he wants to be the Captain. Everytime his backup misses a tackle in practice, make him run. Everytime his backup is out of position on a play, make him run. Let him know he didn't affect the card-holder and only the card-holder. He affected every person on the defense. Let him know he is putting people in situations they may not be mentally or physically ready yet which is not fair to them or his teammates. That missed tackle wasn't Washington, or Reeves, or Young, it was Sims. They are supposed to be learning from their captain, not covering his ***.
The unknown future could be enough to make him see "the big picture". He has a bright future ahead of him. Take that future away, if even for a week or two, and see how he responds. This ordeal should not be about the short-term, it should be a wake-up call to him and all others that a Scholly is an honor. Treat the coaching staff, teammates, fanbase and university as a whole with the utmost respect. EVERY person on the team should walk away from this learning a lesson. Too many people are counting on you 24/7, from your biggest fan to the guy in the huddle next to you.
I hate to sound like a ****, but every body we have is vital to us winning a game, making a bowl, making a BETTER bowl. All of which effects recruiting, ticket sales, donations, etc. If we don't want to get left in the cold next time Texas gets too big for their britches then we need to make sure our players know the trickle-down that will occur if they get in trouble with the law/don't make grades, etc. We need our starters possibly more than any other BigXII school. We are not deep enough to just take guys out for a week, or two, or three. We need them suited. But we don't need them suited at all costs. There is a code of conduct to follow.
I know CPR will do the right thing given the situation, I just want the guilt Sims feels towards his teammates and fanbase to outweigh any legal consequences.

Rumor from the DSM Register comment section...says the card was his gf's. She let him use it then wanted the stuff back when he broke up with her. Discuss.

(I have no idea if this has ANY validity)

Which means Veronica Gonzalez was his GF and he wasn't with his live in roommate/gf this whole time?

seems implausible.

Sounds like a civil matter and not a criminal one.

Let's get this out of the way. I am 99% sure that is not the case. I am almost positive he is living with his gf and they have a child.

Really? I'm pretty sure that for most of the players on our team, using someone else's credit card would never enter their minds.

The lesson should be that your irresponsible acts affect the entire team/community, not just yourself. No **** 99% of the players aren't going to do something like this. Does that mean they can't come away from this enlightened in some way? College is supposed to prepare you for the real world, and in this case he let down a ton of people that need him. You do that in the work force and your *** will be looking for the unemployment line.
That, and don't use a credit card that isn't yours.
