Scoring Droughts

it is kind of disappointing that this was so predictable.

Away from Hilton. So much to gain, but not much to lose. When a TJ team has their backs against the wall they always pull through, but when they’re in position to make the fatal strike it’s always a miss.

For some reason this team needs their ass handed to them by a worse team regularly to play to their potential. I think there’s no chance at a deep tournament run due to this.
I don't think they have played bad at a neutral sight this year.

I think if it is a neutral sight they seem to press less, play more team ball.

Aside from TCU, they lost at some good home court arenas.

Under TJ it is not secret there have been multiple 4 minute plus FG droughts or outright scoring droughts. It has plagued this program. The early years you can probably give a pass for it happening as there may not have been the offensive firepower. The good news is it doesn't happen as frequently now. But with this team, it should never happen in my opinion. Tonight we had a freaking 6 minute scoring drought and another one for 3 minutes. 8 minutes of basketball and no points. How do we get out those, or prevent them. I guess one obvious thing is call a time out. I noticed when BYU went into a rut, they called a time out and ran a successful play out of it. Why can't we do the same? Thoughts?
They also lead the country in kill shots.
So they can score quickly and efficiently.

Its maddening really

No. I’m just tired of never making it anywhere in the big dance. This year feels like it will be the exact same story. No reason to believe otherwise.
I mean maybe? The final four talk is stupid, so don’t get sucked into that. This team isn’t final four material. Definitely not the end of the word.

4-0 on neutral courts, including 3-1 against the spread (+36). My concern would be that if it’s between the ears, those NCAA Tournament “neutral courts” quickly turn on the high seed when they smell an upset.

Okay, so pick ISU for an early exit in your bracket. Some of you are such negative Nancys. Someone actually said, I'm willing to give Otz more time. Shocker, a lot of really good teams lose on the road, especially at altitude. It's what always made playing at Colorado tough in the old Big8/12 days even though they often were terrible. Even the 99-2000 team lost at Colorado.

If ISUs big 3 go 12-33 and the 5 spot gets 4 and 0 rebounds, ISU is losing. There’s a ton of pressure on those guys as long as Toure and Heise are going to play 25-30 mins each. Their lack of offense gives the other guys little room for error.

I’d like to see more Batemon mins and some aggression from Toure and Heise offensively attacking the hoop. Wings are scoring positions. Defense is great from those guys, and they need to play a lot. But it’s extremely hard to win with minimal offense from wing players against good teams.

Obviously Toure’s career isn’t over, but he’s running short on time to figure things out this season. He’s driving too aimlessly, easy for me to say but I think he’d be well served getting to a spot and hitting a floater rather than trying to get to the rack against some freak rim protectors. Heise had some great looks last night and missed the ones when Iowa State was within striking distance. So it goes. completely agree that if your bigs aren’t rebounding or scoring it puts pressure on the big 3, then if they aren’t scoring all the pressure is on the role players. It’s a cascade

We lack guys that can create off the bounce and go get a bucket. We're also lacking in length and athleticism when you compare us to other top teams.
We are also lacking in NIL vs top teams, so we’re going to have to moneyball things a bit. The 6’10” plus guys are going to draw tons of interest, just like the old days of HS recruiting. So the 5 spot is probably going to be a bargain bin guy that we hope can outperform and play a role.

Oh yeah it's totally understandable why. I would be very curious to see our spending vs the rest of the top 10. I'm sure it's quite a bit lower

Tamin was the same way as a freshman, Toure's offensive game will improve with age, his roll with this team is to play defense more than anything else when the team is scoring. Last night we again saw what happens when they struggle to make shots. Outside of Jefferson, we get very little scoring from our other bigs, most nights, which means that Milan and Lipsey have to get us points.

I was really impressed with the way BYU was taking it to the hoop early in the game last night, spread them out and drive, we need to be doing more of that, but you have to finish if you are going to do it.
