Score! in Ames

Funny how the barcade is popping up everywhere these days. You can't even move inside of Up-Down after 10pm on the weekends.

I google mapped the address to see where it was going to be. Then I street viewed it. There is a cute chick next to the Subway! Also check out the guy in the background by the subway (In the back ally) perving on her! haha. (Zoom in a couple times)

Yeah, kind of ready for the fad to wear down a bit so that bar can actually be enjoyable on a weekend night.

My wife said the bar attached to the backside of the Hessen Haus is a barcade now as well. Not sure of the name. She said she liked it better than Up/Down.

Can anyone compare Barcadeum and Up-Down. I've heard both sides. Heard Barcadeum has fewer games, but better quality games and isn't near as packed as up-down.

It's called Barcadium. I like the games a lot more at Up-Down. There was no games at Barcadium that really pulled at my 12 year old strings.

I feel like there would be no single women at these things

Been to Barcadium once. There were. Not a lot but more than imagined and it was a weeknight. The setting for conversing with these women, I think would be pretty good since it's so casual and everyone is playing video games.

Yes, there was a lot of thought put into this.

I too would think the video games creates conversation more so than a regular bar. Take away the drunk ramblings at 1 AM and most bars don't give enough stimuli to artificially create conversation.

There are SOME, but not many. Mostly couples groups. Opening night of Up/Down the line for the one stall men's room was 15 deep and women were going in and out as they please... It's NEVER like that at a bar..

Which is a quick downfall for a bar. Outside of "hanging with the bros" young men go to bars to meet women. You needs things to attract women so the men show up, not the other way around.

The exception, to me, is a high-end lounge with scotch and whatnot. your target market is not 21-30 year olds but older professionals and businessmen with clients, etc.

Pardon my ignorance but is a vodka bar just a bar that only serves vodka based drinks?

You can get other drinks too. Wine, beer, etc... but a majority of the drinks are vodka based. Whether you get a Vodka/OJ or Vodka/Cranberry, or just go Vodka on the rocks infused with something. Could be a fruit, vegetable, or other stuff too.
