A lot of opinions from people that know very little about what it takes to be an offensive coordinator.

That what these boards are for, I guess.
So nobody is allowed to have an opinion unless we know all the intricacies of being an OC?

Close the thread down then because nobody is qualified to be talking about this.

I'll give you my final opinion, hes too young and we needed some fresh eyes on the program.

Scheelhaase should also be demanding that special teams be addressed. It is in the offense's best interest they can count on the FG unit to be nearly automatic when the offense gets to the red zone. It is also in their best interest that they can have the punt, kickoff and return teams not put them at a disadvantage in the field position battle.

Wait, what there's still an issue with special teams?!?

I thought that was already fixed since we've only heard about changes with the offensive staff. :)

Seriously, will this ever be addressed?

Nope, dissenting opinions are not welcomed.

Example: Special teams are not an issue at all and never have been.

It's only an issue if you like hitting gimme field goals and intelligently receiving and snapping punts.

Golesh was the tie to Scheelhaase for ISU. They were both on Beckman's staff at Illinois. They have been the best recruiters of the Campbell era. If Golesh wants him, I'd take that as a very good recommendation. Golesh is the coach that Campbell shouldn't have let get away.

Also, I wouldn't discount Nate due to his age. Garrett Riley is 33 and also never started a P5 game, warming the bench at TTU before transferring to SFA.

I think this is a great move. He knows the system. He has coached two of the four skill position groups. He knows the players on the roster. He has played QB at a D1 level. He is respected by everyone on the team. He is young and likely has many new ideas. Now we will find out if he has a feel for the game and how to sequence plays.

In my opinion, going outside to get someone from a MAC school or similar has more risk. And trying to get someone totally unfamiliar to the staff like a Mangino didn't work in the past.

I'll give him a chance but I'd say it's 75% likely he's too young and in way over his head, and 25% likely we have the next Colin Klein as OC.
What does young have to do with anything? That sounds like an extreme boomer take. Age has nothing to do with talent and ability. ******** post.

I’ll share some more thoughts from current players (not naming them of course) when I get a chance. But, there are mixed emotions though. All happy for him as a person and someone they respect, but a lot of concerns and reservations about how many changes will be seen day to day based on what they’ve seen and experienced.
This makes me question some of the players on the offensive side of the ball. Are they bought in or not? From what I saw on the field it was not all a coaching issue. Execution was a major issue.

And is that a bad thing? It’s not like they were good this year…

What players aren't feeling "it." Were there 3 players, 30 players, were they starters, were they subs, freshman, seniors, etc.?

Very weak post by whomever said this.
You may want to pose that question to Jeremy. I am responding to him, not presenting that news/comment as my own.

Two position coach positions open--RB and OL

Hire an OL coach who can focus on that and also be the run game coordinator.

Hire a RB coach who can also be a special teams coordinator, like if you could hire a guy who used to coach Kenny Wang before he was a star kick returner for the Vikes. ISU looking like a better place than NW right now. NW can't rely on beating the Fuskers for a win in the BTW.

I think the post was perceived wrong by many. There is cautiousness and some hope.

The concerns largely revolve around those that wonder IF the changes will be enough. The scheme is going to remain the same (they’ve been told) so the comments I hear (via texts) were questioning if Nate will have much more leeway to change things up in game given where the instructions have come from. As one said “An OC needs to be more than coordinator in title” and it’s a legit concern in if that will be the case. Some of the players have had one on ones and have had mixed promises on direction.

Example of concern - How certain positions are utilized - TEs and RBs primarily, as well as if QB rollouts and mobility will be allowed.

I’ve also heard a few that are ecstatic and think things will improve without hesitation.

Do most teams have a dedicated TE coach? Seems weird to have that but I guess TEs are important in our scheme. Seems like you could do TEs/WR or TEs/O-line. But I'm naive to a lot of this
